Summary:
At PRR, we create meaningful and inclusive opportunities for people to get information and engage with decision-makers—our clients. These clients include government agencies, organizations, and business that focus on transportation, public health, and the environment. As a consultant, we add value and supplement workforce, billing for our time and materials to bring in revenue.
This entry-level position based in Baltimore will be responsible for event planning and staffing, including transporting materials and supplies to and from, setting up and breaking down, and staffing a variety of tabling and outreach events in the evenings and on weekends. In addition, the coordinator will support PRR project managers in researching, planning and implementing communications and inclusive engagement activities for a variety of transportation, environmental, and infrastructure projects. The candidate will also provide support for PRR’s Baltimore and DC office administrative needs. This hybrid position provides flexibility to work remotely and/or from our Baltimore office, with a focus on in-person community outreach work throughout the greater Baltimore region. We’re looking for a strong communicator who thrives in collaborative work environments.
This position is a hybrid role, with a requirement to work in the office two days a week.
We prioritize candidates with demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice and experience supporting successful campaigns to reach diverse audiences. Also desired: experience and strong interest in transportation (e.g., transit, connectivity, mobility justice, construction), health (e.g., social determinates of health and healthcare), or the environment (e.g., water infrastructure, clean water, built environment, waste management and recycling).
Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Communications
- Conduct research to help develop communications and community engagement plans with strategies and tactics to reach historically underserved populations.
- Support equitable community engagement initiatives to meaningfully involve historically underserved communities in decision-making, including people who are Black, people who are Indigenous, and people of color, people with disabilities, people living in poverty, people who use languages other than English These activities could include coordination with PRR’s language services team for translation/transcreation, coordination with PRR’s research team on demographic analyses, and conducting outreach to community-based organizations on behalf of our clients.
- Coordinate, transport materials to and from, breakdown and set up, and attend virtual and in-person meetings, briefings, interviews, and events, including during evening and weekend hours.
- Maintain databases to track events and correspondence.
- Draft responses to questions and correspondence from community members.
- Work with our CBO practice area to learn and execute practices for engaging with community-based organizations
- Create meeting agendas, take notes, and prepare meeting summaries
- Research, write, and edit content for newsletters and press releases, social media, fact sheets, informational materials, presentations, summary reports, online open houses, and websites
- Help produce PowerPoint presentations
- Coordinate with the Creative Studio on graphic design and video needs
- Coordinate with Language Services on translation and interpretation needs
Project Management
- Work on a variety of project teams at once, including participating in project team meetings and collaborating with cross-disciplinary staff.
- Complete tasks within communicated scope, schedule, and budget for projects
- Ensure work is on time, on budget, and on target with objectives; troubleshoot any issues as they arise
- Proactively complete tasks
- Develop and manage event work plans
Client Relations
- Establish and support effective working relationships with clients and communities
- Provide excellent customer service
- Provide responsive and timely information to clients
- Maintain confidentiality of client information
- Attend client meetings
Administrative
- Maintain or exceed billable utilization goals
- Complete timesheets and expense reports on time and with accurate information
- Provide accurate and timely billing information to accounting department
- Work with the Director of IT & Facilities to manage office and storage space for all Mid-Atlantic offices
- Assist onsite with new employee onboarding
- Maintain office supply orders and organization
- Seek out opportunities to make the regional offices more organized and efficient
- Assist in clerical work as assigned (copying, scanning, faxing, typing, mailing, etc.)
- Schedule conference rooms across all PRR locations for meetings, etc.
- Draft correspondence
- Other admin support as needed

Experience/Education
- This is an entry-level position designed for someone who is either a recent college graduate with a bachelors degree in communications, marketing, policy, or political science or has equivalent experience in communications, community engagement, or someone interested in transitioning into the community engagement profession.
- Experience working with historically underserved communities highly desired.
- Experience working in customer or client service highly desired
- Experience working with or in the public sector highly desired.

- The successful candidate will have the poise and maturity to participate in meetings with clients and teammates

Billable Utilization
In this role, your time will largely be spent working on projects and billing your time to clients. Approximately 85%of your time in this role should be billed to clients (34 hours out of a 40-hour work week). The remainder would be billed to PRR to complete company activities, engage in business development, attend company events, and participate in growth and development opportunities. Our staff track and report their time spent on projects and company activities each week.
Compensation
The full salary range for this position is $26.00 - $34.00 per hour. We aim to hire new employees between $26.00 and $30.00 per hour (depending on experience) allowing for future compensation growth within the range based on aptitude in the role, context, progress, and performance against goals over time.
