The Controls Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for all aspects to ensure functionality, quality, cost, and customer satisfaction.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Overview
The Controls Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for all aspects to ensure functionality, quality, cost, and customer satisfaction.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for understanding and performing all tasks and responsibilities according to the specific Job Safety Practices (JSP) established for this job.
- Responsible for safety and housekeeping procedures and for maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Responsible for adhering to all Prysmian Group health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations, including our hazardous waste handling if designated and trained to do so.
- Assists and coordinates with management in the development of capital equipment requirements and budgets
- Designs and/or designates tooling and equipment to support new and existing product in all areas of the plant
- Analyze complex customer issues by using statistical tools
- Design of experiment on materials and processes to assist the facility to improve and reduce product costs
- Writes appropriation requests for tooling, equipment, and systems
- Directs the installation and debugging of departmental equipment and systems
- Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods
- Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
- Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, material, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards
- Provides hands-on assistance to maintenance and other engineering personnel in the analysis of mechanical and electronic problems
- Responsible for initiating corrective actions to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities, identifying and recording problems relating to product quality, processes, and quality systems, as well as controlling further processing or delivery of nonconforming product
- Works with manufacturing on process techniques and process problem-solving
- Maintain customer and vendor contacts for technical and state-of-the-art developments
- Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
- Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.
- Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry standards related to the facility.
- Maintains a fundamental understanding of all equipment and processes, including the interpretation of electrical/mechanical schematics, electronic programs, software, procedures, costing, and government/industry standards.
- Design electrical control panels
- Design and write PLC programs
- Design programmable human machine interface (HMI) software
- Design, development, and implementation of control systems
- Perform prototyping, testing, validation, and verification of implemented control systems
- Perform startup, tuning and troubleshooting of variable frequency drives
- Provide start-up support for control systems
- Provide technical support for installation of tools and equipment
- Play critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of engineering processes and machinery, contributing to the overall success of our projects
- Excellent problem solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
- Strong verbal, listening, and judgment skills
- Excellent math, reading, and writing skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical instructions
- Ability to plan and prioritize tasks and activities with the capability of making plan adjustments spontaneously to maximize safety, quality and machine efficiency
- Able to read and interpret data and information from written or printed documents, computer monitors or other devices
- Able to write legibly and record information accurately
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering discipline.
- Must have extensive experience with Allen Bradley Studio 5000
- Must be familiar with industrial protocols such as: Ethernet/IP, RS-232, RS-422/485
- A minimum of three years hands-on engineering experience in industry, preferred wire manufacturing.
- Experienced in CAD System, MS Office, automation controls, database programming
- Corrected vision to 20/20 being able to clearly see objects at long or short distances and be able to see details in small objects and read fine print
- Occasional manual lifting up to 50 pounds
- Able to react quickly to changing circumstances and move with safe speed and agility from one position or location to another
- Wear all Personal Protective Equipment required for job duties and required tasks
- Frequent tasks involving walking, standing, squatting and bending are required
