Get paid while you train to be a U.S. Coast Guard-certified tankerman. PSC's Tankerman Career Academy training program will put you on the fast track to an in-demand career in the booming petrochemical industry.

Our tankerman training program takes only four months and includes a combination of classroom instruction and one-on-one field training taught by some of the very best tankermen in the industry. We are now accepting applications for our next training class which begins on October 14, 2024 in Pasadena, TX.

Upon successful completion and graduation from the Tankerman Career Academy training program and receipt of the Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) from the Coast Guard, the tankerman trainee will be eligible for continued employment with PSC Group as a Level 1 Tankerman with pay increase to $34.00 per hour. The work area includes sites in and around the Houston area. More details regarding the pay and benefits and the work area will be provided at one of our upcoming TCA information sessions.

Job Duties of a Tankerman

• The tankerman’s role is critical to our nation’s petroleum and chemical shipping industry.
• The tankerman serves as the Person-in-Charge (PIC) of critical operations, with responsibility for protecting the environment by ensuring the safe transfer of petrochemicals to barges.
• Tankermen must be certified by the U.S. Coast Guard.
• There are two types of tankermen: vessel tankermen and shore tankermen.
• PSC employs shore tankermen who live at home and travel to various work sites.

While training full-time during the four-month Tankerman Career Academy program, tankermen trainees:

• Are paid $15 per hour plus mileage reimbursement for travel to and from field training locations;
• Are paid time-and-a-half for all instruction hours in excess of 40 hours per week;

Minimum Requirements:

• 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
• Able to read, write, speak, and understand English clearly
• Valid driver’s license
• No DUIs/DWIs in the past three years
• Pass a drug screen and physical
• Have or be qualified to receive a valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
• Eligible to receive a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) upon completion of the on-the-job training program
