Job Description:
If you are an IT Support professional who is strong at providing good customer service while repairing and servicing the IT needs of the agency, can learn at a fast pace, implement new technologies, work with multiple stakeholders, is organized and a self-starter, this is the position for you.
The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for one (1) Help Desk Technician (Information Systems Specialist 4) position within the Information Services Division (ISD)’s Technical Operations Section (TOS).
  • This is a full-time, Limited duration workload position. This position is expected to last through June 30, 2025; however, based on workload need and funding, it could end at any time, be extended, or become permanent.
  • This position is based at our headquarters office in Tigard, Oregon. The successful candidate will be required to work 100% in the office for the first ninety (90) days before migrating to a hybrid work schedule consisting of working from home 2 days and working in the office 3 day per week.
  • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
  • This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

What you will be doing:
As a Help Desk Technician (Information Systems Specialist 4) you will be a part of the Help Desk supporting the agency staff with their technological needs while providing top level customer service. Daily, you will be remediating Tier II level issues, fulfilling requests, setting up new employee workstations, creating and maintaining support documentation, and ensuring all end-user systems are functioning as intended. Occasionally, you will work with senior staff on project tasks implementing IT operational support plans while following IT operational and security policies and standards. PERS has 3 physical locations, a Salem office, Salem Data Center, and a headquarters office in Tigard. In addition, there are two cloud locations that serve the agency. This position is based out of the Tigard location and as needed, you will travel to the Salem office to maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot any issues related to the end-user equipment

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Help Desk Technician (Information Systems Specialist 4)
Three (3) years of information systems experience in: (IT Helpdesk Support);

OR
(b) An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field;

AND
one (1) year of information systems experience in: (IT Helpdesk Support).
Candidates who are the most competitive will possess the following skills, background, and areas of experience:
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong at learning and implementing new technologies.
  • Experience with Tier II level technical support and quality documentation.
  • Experience with imaging computers; MS SCCM experience preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, Identity management, and Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Experience with ITIL framework and ITSM Foundation; Foundations v4 preferred.
  • Experience in security remediation and solution engineering.
  • Preference may be given to someone with certifications for ITIL Foundations, MCP, MSCE, HDI, and A .

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%
