Our Global Fixed Income (GFI) unit is currently seeking an Investment Manager (IM) to perform emerging markets sovereign credit research, provide investment recommendations, and drive our CalPERS mission.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Analyze country and regional economic and investment conditions/trends and the relevant benchmarks to formulate portfolio investment decisions.
- Assist in managing the day-to-day portfolio construction of the internally managed Emerging Markets (EM) dollar-denominated sovereign portfolio. Management of day-to-day responsibilities will include in-depth portfolio performance attribution as well as closely monitoring risk positions, benchmark rules, inclusions/exclusions criteria, and turnover to rebalance the portfolio.
- Develop collaborative and constructive relationships with CalPERS' external EM debt managers to help CalPERS' team members in their EM debt management efforts.
- Assess emerging markets economic and political developments to provide CalPERS fixed income/other asset classes with insights on potential investment opportunities; conduct country visits, as needed and when appropriate, and attend EM debt-related conferences.
Anticipated Interview Dates: We anticipate holding interviews beginning the week of April 1, 2025.
Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite per week.

Position Details
This position is eligible for annual and long-term incentive awards. The annual incentive opportunity is 0-75% of salary and is based on the level of achievement against several quantitative and qualitative measures. The long-term incentive program provides an additional opportunity of 50% of the base salary beginning after five years and when absolute total fund returns meet or exceed board-approved thresholds.

Desirable Qualifications
- Five plus years of experience managing Emerging Markets debt portfolios and/or analyzing Emerging Markets sovereign debt or related debt instruments.
- Possession of an advanced degree, such as an MBA or MA, or certifications, such as CFA, CPA, CAIA, or other equivalent financial or accounting certification.
- Experience with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and PowerBI.
- Proficiency using Bloomberg and BlackRock Aladdin.
