Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

The Human Resources Division is currently seeking a Staff Services Manager I Specialist, to join our team and provide expert level consultation, training, investigative, leadership, and overall performance related services to CalPERS leadership. The ideal candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a solid foundation in the State’s Progressive Discipline Process with a can-do attitude and a teamwork mindset.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Independently consults with and provides training to CalPERS’ leadership regarding the most complex and sensitive personnel issues, policy implementation, and the Progressive Discipline Process.
  • Independently develops new training classes for use in the unit and throughout CalPERS.
  • Performs analysis on Investigations related to allegations of misconduct.
  • Independently consults with and provides training regarding workplace violence and bullying prevention to CalPERS leadership.
  • Regularly drafts and/or provides feedback/review for documents related to the Progressive Discipline Process.

Working Conditions

  • This position is designated as office-centered and works primarily onsite at the Sacramento, CA -Headquarters at least three weekdays.

Statement of Qualifications

  • The Performance Management and Investigation Unit team members independently compose sensitive personnel communication documents, such as actions, reports, plans, memorandums, etc. Describe your experience preparing similar type documents.
  • Describe your experience reviewing investigative reports to determine policy violations. Include information on the types of investigations, the steps you take, your analysis process, and how you make your determination(s).
  • Describe how you exercise a high degree of independence and responsibility in your current position. Please include a specific example in your answer.

Minimum Qualifications
