Position Summary
The Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a National Cancer Institute supported clinical trials group, is the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. The COG unites more than 12,000 experts in childhood cancer at more than 220 leading children’s hospitals, universities, and cancer centers across North America, Australia, and New Zealand in the fight against childhood cancer. Our goal is to cure all children and adolescents with cancer, reduce the short- and long-term complications of cancer treatments, and determine the causes and find ways to prevent childhood cancer.
The Senior Systems Administrator’s primary role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in- house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all enterprise software and associated operating systems both internal and external to COG. The Senior Systems Administrator will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
The Senior Systems Administrator will also provide helpdesk support to all COG staff to ensure requests are processed and resolved in a timely manner. This position will report to the Senior Director of IT Security & Operations. The candidate must reside within the United States.
This is a full-time and remote position. Occasional travel to Monrovia, CA and Los Angeles, CA may be requested if the telecommute work location is within the greater Los Angeles area.
Full salary range for this position : $100,661 to $151,630 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $100,661 (minimum) to $126,146 (midpoint), based on 100% FTE. The starting salary is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Collaborate with IT Operation’s staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Ensure hardware and software compatibility, helping to facilitate scalability and capacity planning.
- Understand internal business operations and make recommendations for process improvement as related to how the information systems are being utilized.
Acquisition & Deployment
Deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.Remain current on the latest software and hardware products that may benefit COG Operations.Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services, as well as troubleshooting issues as they arise.Operational Management
Provide timely end-user desktop support via the IT helpdesk ticketing system for all COG users (internal and external), maintaining excellent customer service.Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.Support the development of desktop and server security plans, security policies and procedures (SOPs), concepts of operations, and related documentation for the IT Operations Team.Assist with designing and performing server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.Provides operational support for Windows servers supporting production, security, training, disaster recovery, test, and development efforts.Troubleshoots, rebuilds, recovers and tunes servers, desktops, laptops and virtual servers as well as any other support equipment.Support continuity of operations as a part of a 24×7 on-call rotation.Works with the IT Operations team on larger, more complex projects and helps creation of project-wide scope, where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.Other

5 years of system administration experience.Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field; or substitute with four additional years of relevant experience.Other Qualifications
