What will this position do?

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction and manufacturing projects, ensuring accurate tracking of budgets, costs, and revenues. This role serves as a critical link between project teams and financial operations, providing detailed analysis and reporting to successful project executing and profitability.

The Project Accountant will be someone who is Proactive, Passionate, has excellent Partnership, and is a natural Problem Solver.

A Project Accountant's Top Three Priorities:

  • Priority #1 - Financial Oversight of Projects: Track project budgets, costs, and forecasts to ensure alignment with financial goals. Monitor and reconcile project-specific accounts.
  • Priority #2 - Cost Management and Reporting: Analyze variances between budgeted and actual costs, assist in the preparation of financial report, including Work-In-Progress (WIP) and cost-to-complete reporting, and provide detailed project profitability analysis.
  • Priority #3 - Billing and Revenue Recognition: Assist and track project-related billing processes, including progress and milestone invoicing and track retention billings.

What are your other responsibilities?

  • Collaborate with Purchasing/Procurement to ensure accurate tracking of project materials and subcontractor costs.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in audits and provide supporting documentation as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: 4-year degree from an accredited college, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Required: 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or manufacturing

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting software, such as QuickBooks
  • Preferred experience with Salesforce CRM and NetSuite

KNOWLEDGE AND OTHER SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of construction contracts, lien waivers, and retainage
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Understanding of percentage-of-completion and job costing methodologies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must demonstrate high level of professionalism.

Must be able to lift up 5-10 pounds on an irregular basis. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to mid- level.

The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort and occasional light exertion. There is occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and temperature changes.
