Position Summary

This position is an integral part of our Security Team. The primary responsibility of the incumbent is to positively represent Grant PUD while ensuring safe and secure recreation opportunities for our guests. The Recreation Security Officers are equal parts security officer and Grant PUD ambassador. The incumbent must consistently provide the degree of maturity, emotional intelligence, and situational awareness needed to de-escalate situations that arise through the course of our recreation season. These positions fill a crucial role in the Grant PUD response and escalation continuum, providing a mature and experienced presence, de-escalating minor, or serious conflict situations, and requesting Law Enforcement support when the situation calls for it. The Recreation Security Officers must always represent Grant PUD in a professional manner. The incumbent will interact with the public on a constant basis and will respond to threats to Grant PUD employees, visitors, or assets. The incumbent may be called on to participate or lead investigations. Due to the sensitive nature of this information, the incumbent is required to exercise a high degree of confidentiality and discretion. This position requires a positive, customer-focused attitude, and the skills to assess complex interpersonal situations and take appropriate actions to diffuse these situations.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Complete patrol duties as assigned by the District Security Operations Center each shift.
  • De-escalate potentially serious or volatile situations and interactions.
  • Respond to all threats to Utilities’ personnel, visitors, and assets.
  • Enforce Grant PUD recreation site rules and policies.
  • Support Grant PUD recreation personnel and contractors.
  • Gather sufficient information to complete incident reports as necessary.
  • Support all Security Response plans.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain a high degree of situational awareness.
  • Absolute discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Must be able to operate a district vehicle.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.
  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies & procedures.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to:
    • Following all safety policies and procedures.
    • Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions.
    • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor.
    • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance
    • Perform other duties as directed by the Physical Security Supervisor, Security Manager, and/or Senior Management.
    • Absolute discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

Education and Experience

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 10 or more years law enforcement experience.

License and Certification

Required

  • Valid Washington driver’s license with no restrictions. 

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of investigation techniques; Laws and regulations applicable to recreation sites and hydroelectric projects; First aid response.
  • Skills in Exceptional Conflict resolution; Interpersonal and customer service; Problem solving; Self-motivation and ability to independently make quick decisions under pressure; Superior ability to assess people, situations and recognize potential threats; Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and control in a high pressure or emergency; High tolerance for ambiguity.

Physical Requirements

  • Position may be eligible for hybrid work arrangement: ☐Yes ☒No
  • Majority of the work is performed in the field at a recreational site (Crescent Bar) or multiple recreational sites and traveling between them - Field Work
    • Will perform work onsite at the locations of the assigned Business Units
    • Frequent changes physical of position, getting in and out of vehicle, standing, walking, sitting, crouching, and bending.
    • Walking on uneven terrain for up to a mile.
  • Typical shift of employees in this position: ☒8 hours ☐9 hours  ☒10 hours  ☐12 hours
