Organization Overview

PUC National is a non-profit organization that serves to promote, support, benefit, replicate, and carry out the purposes and mission of Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC Schools). 

We have a contractual relationship with Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC Schools) to provide a variety of support services to the schools in NE Los Angeles and the NE San Fernando Valley. This includes but is not limited to Finance, Human Resources, Operations, IT and Data Management, facilities identification and acquisition, fundraising, grant management, college access, alumni relations, charter development and renewal, and compliance.

 

The Team Member we are searching for

The ideal Benefits and Leave Representative believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC National and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, and collaboration to ensure schools’ success across the organization.

 

What you will need to accomplish:

Benefits:

  • Provide information and guidance to PUC employees regarding employee benefits programs and services
  • Address employee inquiries related to benefits eligibility, claims, and coverage
  • Serve as a liaison between Broker and PUC management to provide information related to employee benefits programs and services
  • Research and review benefits information for the evaluation of cost-effective benefits programs
  • Compose and edit benefits written materials such as emails and newsletters
  • Coordinate and present benefits information to PUC employees at new hire orientation and annual open enrollment (in-person and/or virtual)
  • Manage monthly benefit invoicing and auditing
  • Conduct enrollment audits and compliance reviews
  • Prepare summary reports on employee benefits information for management
  • Review and manage ACA and validate information for 1094 and 1095 forms
  • Manage all Health & Welfare and voluntary plans in HRIS system
  • Manage compliance requirements on a monthly basis
  • Run reports to identify employees that are eligible for benefits and send email notification to newly eligible employees with detailed instructions on enrollment process
  • Track all benefit enrollment information 
  • Approve employee’s elections and changes in HRIS system
  • Complete Conversion and Portability Forms for terminating employees
  • Coordinate benefit related programs such as wellness fairs, step challenges, etc.

Leave of Absence Management:

  • Oversee and administer all aspects related to leave requests and accommodations requiring specialized attention particularly those arising under the FMLA, ADA, state, and local laws, and short-term or long-term plans
  • Educate employees and managers on leave policies, rights, and responsibilities
  • Process leaves requests and ensures timely communication with employees and supervisors
  • Maintain accurate and confidential leave records in compliance with applicable laws and company policies
  • Track and monitor employee leave to ensure adherence to return-to-work timelines

Compliance:

  • Stay updated on federal, state, and local regulations regarding benefits and leave, including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, and ERISA
  • Assist with annual compliance filings such as ACA reporting and 5500 forms
  • Ensure benefits and leave processes align with company policies and regulatory requirements

Customer Service:

  • Provide prompt and empathetic assistance to employees regarding benefits and leave concerns
  • Collaborate with HR, Payroll, and other departments to address cross-functional issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Attend in-person meetings and collaborate with the team in the office on designated in-office days while managing independent tasks remotely. This is a hybrid role.

Qualifications


What do we require from you?

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, related field, or equivalent training and experience required

Experience:

  • 4 years of professional work experience in processing employee benefits or other related fields
  • Previous experience with leave management compliance including FMLA, CFRA and ADA
  • Previous experience in fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, and Cal/OSHA preferred
  • Previous knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and legislation related to benefits programs including COBRA, CAL-COBRA, and HIPAA preferred

  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb, and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
