Department Purpose
Position Summary The First Year Coordinator for the evaluates the academic and social cognitive needs of students to identify and implement appropriate support services to ensure student success. This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) in accordance with Department of Education guidelines. ?As a CSA, the incumbent is required to report crimes that they become aware of to the Department of Public Safety and must attend related annual training.
In accordance with Colorado Revised Statutes 24-50-135, this position has been exempted from the State Personnel System.
Job Duties
- Develops, coordinates, participates, and delivers outreach programs and recruitment efforts for prospective students and families.
- Tracks and reports recruitment information and monitors enrollment progress.
- Researches and utilizes data and recruitment tools for outreach.
- Develops and leads orientation and student onboarding activities to proactively address barriers to student success by connecting students to resources to troubleshoot common issues experienced at the beginning of their first semester.
- Meets with new and assigned students on an individual and group basis to provide proactive/holistic advising that focuses on academic planning and student development.
- Develops, plans, and coordinates programming that promotes student retention using advanced knowledge in learning styles, financial literacy, transfer guidance, cultural programs, and career exploration.
- Monitors early alert reporting system to provide interventions related to students’ academic performance and social issues to resolve barriers to student success.
- Implements best practices in student development theory and provides timely feedback to support the social-cognitive needs of students to maintain a connection to campus.
- Utilizes standardized reporting practices to accurately document interactions, evaluations, referrals, and conversations with assigned student caseload within the Navigate platform.

- Obtains and maintains proficiency with required systems and equipment.
- Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information as required.
- Completes all required compliance training within the established timeline.
- Serves on committees and other groups as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience
- Two or more years working with students in secondary or higher education.
- Experience with student counseling, student services, and/or social services.
- Experience presenting to individuals or to groups.
License/Certification –
- Valid state driver’s license during period of employment.
- Active membership (or willingness to join once employed) in student affairs professional organization.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of laws, accreditation standards, and best practices pertaining to student counseling, student learning, student retention, and student life.
- Knowledge of student privacy laws including FERPA.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
