Department Purpose
The Office of Dean of Health Professions and Public Safety provides academic leadership across the division, including teaching sites and campuses. The office exists to ensure academic quality, consistency, and student success within the division.
Summary
The Health and Safety Programs Assistant for the Southwest Region supports the Division of Medical and Behavioral Health, the Division of Health Professions, and Public Safety. This role encompasses programs such as Emergency Medical Services, Medical Imaging Technology, Nurse Aide, the Regional Law Enforcement Academy, and Medical Assisting, along with other programs that may be developed or implemented in the SW region (at the Dean's direction) across all campuses and teaching sites in the southwest region.
In accordance with Colorado Revised Statutes 24-50-135, this position has been exempted from the State Personnel System.
Job Duties
Operational Support
- Assists the Dean, Department Chairs, Coordinators, and Administrative Staff with various operational procedures, including:
- Supporting course scheduling, enrollment management, supply orders, and syllabi compliance.
- Completing faculty workload forms and curriculum maps.
- Gathering program data to identify trends and develop improvement strategies, e.g., collection of VE135 data.
- Assisting students as assigned and needed.
- Facilitates purchases and travel according to grant and account guidelines.
- Utilizes and provides training on software systems (e.g., Navigate, Banner, D2L, Castle Branch, CTE Gateway, MyClinicalExchange).
Academic Services Support
- Serves as liaison among Department Chairs, Coordinators, Academic Dean, Administrative Staff, and advisors across all campuses.
- Acts as a liaison for Department Chairs and Coordinators in onboarding new faculty/instructors, ensuring assimilation with college systems and expectations.
- Assists in facilitating communication and training for part-time instructors.
- Coordinates Assessment of Student Learning plans and reports.
- Assists faculty/instructors with compliance paperwork within time-sensitive deadlines.
- Supports logistics for capstone and simulation events.
Student Services Support
- Recruits and retains students in health and safety programs.
- Engages in student outreach, advising, and participation at community events.
- Collaborates with Student Services to provide holistic academic advising and graduation planning for students.
- Ensures students can navigate the enrollment process effectively.
- Coordinates and participates in community events to promote healthcare and public safety programs.
- Assists students with compliance paperwork within time-sensitive deadlines.
Program Management and Development
- Assists with the selective admission process, including (but not limited to) application collection and data input, interview scheduling, and application processing as directed by Department Chairs and Coordinators.
- Organizes and arranges simulations and practical experiences for the law enforcement academy.
- Supports the submission of curriculum and program development documentation.
- Contributes to special projects and grants.
- Plans and implements marketing and recruitment initiatives in conjunction with Student Services, Southwest leadership, Department Chairs, and Coordinators.
- Attends college, division, and advisory committee meetings.
Industry Outreach and Support
- Serves as a local point of contact to maintain and support strong partnerships with local healthcare facilities, emergency services, and public safety organizations.
- Supports the process for Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with industry partners.
- Assists in organizing and conducting outreach for advisory board meetings.
Administrative Duties
- Maintains enrollment management spreadsheets and reports.
- Collaborates with the Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator as needed.
- Produces data reports for the Dean.
- Attends relevant meetings and provides operational support.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience
- Experience with higher education including academic advising, student support, and/or project management
- Experience with higher education software products including Learning management system – D2L, Banner, and Navigate
- Experience with Office Administration duties
- Experience within Industry – Healthcare, public safety, or related field
- Experience working with collaborative relationships and productive team environment (virtual and in-person)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Ellucian Banner, EAB Navigate
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
