BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB |
The Staff Accountant will support the Controller by preparing and maintaining financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

Duties:
- Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization with a focus on ensuring timely and accurate postings and reporting.
- Prepares journal entries with supporting documentation in accordance with GAAP.
- Monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, and Revenue & Expense accounts for multiple entities.
- Maintains the general ledger, with continual variance research and data analysis.
- Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from other departments.
- Verifies vendor contracts and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are allocated to the appropriate divisions.
- Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- Manages the payroll process and company divisions, ensuring proper allocation of employee ‘s costs across multiple organizations.
- Update & maintain Policy and Procedure Manual for the accounting department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS |
- Three years staff accounting or progressive related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
- Advanced MS Excel skills including pivot tables
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (QuickBooks Enterprise)

Physical Demands:
- Standing - This position frequently requires standing for frequently for patient assessment, positioning patient for procedure, communicating with all facility personnel, faxing, copying and completing other job-related duties.
- Walking - This position consistently requires walking short distances of up to 100 yards to communicate with patients, staff, doctors, vendors, and direct report.
- Sitting - This position consistently requires sitting to configure and enter data needed for electronic medical charts, diagnostic procedures on a RIS and PACS computer system and other essential job duties.
- Lifting - This position consistently requires lifting objects weighing a minimum of 50 lbs. to carry out essential job duties and deal with patients with physical disabilities and/or disorders.
- Carrying - This position occasionally requires carrying objects weighing up a maximum of 50 lbs. for short distances to carry out essential job-related duties.
- Reaching - This position frequently requires reaching with hands and arms approximately 3 ft. all directions to assist patients while at the facility for a required procedure and/or perform various job-related functions.
- Handing - This position frequently requires handing paper, clipboards or objects to patients, staff, doctors, and vendors to carry out essential job duties.
- Bending - This position frequently requires bending/leaning from the waist in all directions to carry out essential job duties.

Explanation: This position is closely monitored by the Controller.

Does this position have access to confidential information? Yes
Explanation: This position has access to confidential information such as social security numbers, dates of birth, credit card numbers, bank account information and HIPAA information.
Does this position have access to or handle company funds? Yes
Explanation: This position has access to all payroll information in Quickbooks, individual bank accounts for electronic direct deposits in NSB, and has access to all company credit cards and accounts in NSB with viewing rights. This position can print company checks, but must obtain authorized signatures for validity.
Is it important to this position the incumbent be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English? Yes
Explanation: Most affiliated personnel (i.e. co-workers, doctors and vendors) and a majority of our patients communicate with our administrative office in English.
What kind of work experience, training, and/or level of education is necessary for this position? This position requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience in public accounting or healthcare related experience. CPA is preferred. Must possess extensive knowledge of accounting procedures and software (Quickbooks is preferred) to perform essential duties.
List any technical skills (typing, computer skills, etc.): The technical skills required by this position include, but are not limited to, typing, proper grammatical skills, use of 10-key, computer proficiency, faxing, scanning, copying and knowledge of Quickbooks is preferred.

Are there particular working conditions associated with this position that should be noted (i.e., working environment, hours of work, travel, work space, etc.)? Yes
Explanation: The working environment is in a quiet administrative office. This position must carry out his/her duties in an average sized workspace. The hours of work may vary depending on the necessities of the company. Occasional travel will be required to outpatient facilities and affiliated hospitals to carry out essential duties.
