What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial, Legal Counsel, North America position at Puig?
The Opportunity:
The North America Legal Counsel will serve as the primary legal advisor for Puig subsidiaries and business teams across North America, encompassing the United States and Canada. This role supports the Beauty and Fashion division, which includes prestigious brands such as Carolina Herrera, Rabanne, Jean Paul Gaultier, Byredo, and Dr. Barbara Sturm, alongside the Carolina Herrera fashion house. The position will report to a Legal Director based in New York and excludes tax, regulatory, and employment law matters from its scope.
What you’ll get to do:
- Provide legal advice to Puig subsidiaries and business teams across North America, covering the United States and Canada, under the Beauty and Fashion division (the “Companies”).
- Review and revise commercial agreements across all activities of the Companies (e.g. distribution, retail, services, marketing, leases, logistics and procurement agreements), overseeing all aspects of their negotiation and execution. This includes drafting, supporting negotiations, liaising with business teams, and maintaining an updated contractual database
- Develop templates to facilitate day-to-day low value transactions without the need of a lot of involvement
- Assist in resolving conflicts with wholesalers and manage the termination of wholesale partnerships, as well as the appointment of new commercial partners
- Draft, review and coordinate the execution, registration and implementation of all necessary corporate resolutions of the companies
- Identify potential legal risks and develop preventive measures
- Ensure the companies’ compliance with general corporate secretarial matters and oversee the implementation of Puig corporate policies.
We’d love to meet you if you have:
- 5 years of in-house counsel experience at a reputable multinational company, preferably handling the aforementioned matters
- Experience in a reputable law firm is a plus
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and a license to practice, preferably in New York
- Spanish speaking language is a plus, but it’s not a requirement
- Proactive, autonomous, fast learner, hard-working, rigorous, flexible, pragmatic, with strong communication skills, a can-do attitude, and sound judgment in ambiguous situations
- Proven legal counsel experience in a business environment, particularly in the luxury consumer/retail industry
- Expertise in reviewing commercial, service, and lease agreements, with familiarity in general corporate matters
- Strong business judgment and ability to assess legal risks while providing practical advice
- Ownership of problems and finding solutions, effectively navigating a diverse organization, including under time-sensitive situations
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, demonstrating resilience, adaptability, and strong organizational skills
- Work collaboratively as part of the legal team while maintaining autonomy and accountability
Compensation:
As required by New York State’s salary transparency law, effective November 2022, the expected base salary for this position ranges from $120,000.00- $175,000.00. Various factors are considered when extending offers, such as relevant skillset, training, years of experience related to the current job description, education, and our organizational structure.
