Pulakos CPAs, a local and independent CPA firm in Albuquerque, has been servicing New Mexico businesses for over 60 years.   We are seeking a talented and motivated Tax Manager to join our team.  We have no minimum chargeable hour requirement and offer great opportunities to learn and grow as we are committed to helping our team members grow professionally.

Job Summary:

The Tax Manager will play a crucial role in serving our clients and contributing to the firm's success along with being empowered to help the firm in developing new client relationships as well as expanding existing ones.  This position offers an opportunity to inherit a significant client base with a partnership track.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for the review and job management functions of tax engagements, including compliance, planning, and research;
  • Responsible for monthly billing;
  • Ability to assume full responsibilities for directing engagements and special assignments;
  • Supportive and offering of assistance to partners and peers;
  • Responsible for the development and training of staff- and senior-level tax accountants with on-the-job experience;
  • Responsible for reviewing work prepared by client personnel;
  • Ability to work closely with clients’ internal accounting department;
  • Recognize when assistance is needed and ask for help from peers and partners and identify tax planning opportunities;
  • Give instructions to staff- and senior-level professionals and take direction from peers and partners;
  • Ability to maintain total confidentiality and discretion; and ability to establish strong relationships with clients, executives, and other key stakeholders; and 
  • Position reports to Tax Department lead partner and oversees assigned staff.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • BS or BA in accounting;
  • Active CPA at manager level;
  • Tax experience of five or more years in public accounting;
  • Experience with Non-Profits and 990 Filings preferred;
  • Flow-through entity and individual tax expertise; and 
  • Experience in the following software programs a plus: RIA Checkpoint, UltraTax, Engagement Manager or similar software.
