The Punahou Tennis School provides a comprehensive pathway of progressive instructional programs for students of all ages and skill levels while encouraging them to adopt tennis as a fun and healthy lifetime sport. Over 500 tennis students are served annually and programs are offered to students of all levels of experience from new beginners to advanced performance.
Punahou School is currently seeking an Associate Director of Tennis who will assist the Director in successfully supervising, programming, planning, coordinating, and executing the tennis programs of Punahou School, inclusive of special events and tournaments. This position will also be responsible for the supervision, training, mentoring, and evaluation of program coaches, faculty, and staff. Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Actively assists with the creation of a safe and productive learning environment.
- Provides facility and staff supervision in the absence of the Director and during special events and tournaments.
- Provides high quality group and private tennis instruction to players of all ages and skill levels — beginners through advanced high performance.
- Leads a team of coaches to provide safe, competent, and developmentally appropriate group tennis instruction with an emphasis on the ROG programs.
- Assists the Director in the development of an age and skill appropriate curriculum with clear learning outcomes and competencies based on the current needs and future vision of the program.
- Oversees the implementation of a broad junior development program that is responsive to evolving needs and expectations.
- Actively assists the Tennis Coordinator and other team members with answering phones and promptly responding to various constituents in a timely fashion.
Position Details:
- Work Year: 12 Months
- Work Hours: Monday - Saturday, Variable hours between 7:30 AM - 7:30 PM, schedule may vary based on operational needs
- Minimum of Salary Range*: $83,250 - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
- Five (5) years of experience in a school-based tennis program, or equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
- Three (3) years of leadership experience.
- USPTA Elite Professional (or equivalent).
- Possess an NTRP rating of 4.5 or higher.
- Ability to demonstrate substantial knowledge of the educational aspects of tennis as validated by the development of comprehensive lesson plans, excellent communication with student-athletes, and a strong understanding of the social and emotional development of children.
- A clear understanding of the USTA’s ADM Framework and its competencies as they relate to a student’s age and skill level, especially at the ROG level (Net Generation).
- Proficient with using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Webex. Working knowledge with other school used programs.
- Successful experience in business operations, risk management practices, and a demonstrated ability to successfully manage financial and human resources.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the interrelationship between athletics, sports, recreation, fitness, and how they align to the mission, vision, and values of the School.
- Consistently acts and presents in a professional manner on and off the court. Models a positive attitude and outlook, energy, enthusiasm, care, humor, resilience, and team and school loyalty to multiple constituents.
- Encourages and stimulates students to enjoy learning and playing tennis, generates excitement, sets students up for success, and facilitates the building of self-confidence.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set up activities and practices, ensuring that everyone is active and that they understand what to do and how to do it.
