What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate - Financial Aid position at Punahou School?
The Financial Aid Associate is generally one of the first points of contact for a prospective financial aid, or sometimes Admissions, family. This individual helps establish the tone for a meaningful relationship with the prospective family. Through all interactions with families, the Financial Aid Associate will educate families on the financial aid application process, as well as assess a high volume of financial aid applications, calculate awards, and participate in the Financial Aid committee review process. The Financial Aid Associate will also assist in maintaining the data in the database, and the integrity of the data.
A reliable presence in the Financial Aid Office and within the larger Admissions and Financial Aid Team, the Financial Aid Associate must possess enthusiasm, flexibility, and an inclusive perspective. The Financial Aid Associate is often characterized as a highly detail oriented and proactive individual, anticipating the needs of families and colleagues in the Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid Associate can also be characterized as a person of high integrity, empathetic, inclusive, and must exercise high standards of confidentiality. The Financial Aid Associate reports to the Director of Financial Aid and Associate Director of Admissions, and partners closely with the entire admissions and financial aid team. Some weekend work is required.
Position Details:
- Work Year: 12 month
- Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. After work hours, weekends, holidays for special events as needed.
- Starting Annual Salary*: $60,000

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
- Three (3) years of work experience in an independent school environment, preferably in admissions, financial aid and/or accounting.
- Experience working in an admissions and financial aid office is preferred.
- Experience with admission and financial aid software (SSS and Blackbaud software) preferred.
- Experience with project management.
- Warm and hospitable speaking and written communication skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work successfully with colleagues, donors, faculty, administrators, and volunteers.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and facilitate an equitable financial aid experience.
- Possess a collaborative, go-getter attitude to partner effectively and efficiently with members of the Financial Aid and Admissions Team, faculty, administrators, and other school departments.
