The School of Nursing in the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall of 2025.
The Purdue School of Nursing (PSON) is a home for 667 undergraduate and 102 graduate students including the Doctor of Nursing Practice and PhD programs (PSON) with 54 dedicated faculty (40 Clinical and 14 Tenure Track). The school is one of nine departments in the College of Health and Human Sciences with more than 5,114 undergraduate and 783 graduate students. Purdue University is a globally recognized research institution demonstrating excellence at scale. Ranked among the top 10 public universities and with two colleges in the top four in the United States, Purdue discovers and disseminates knowledge with a quality and at a scale second to none. More than 105,000 students study at Purdue across various modalities and locations, including nearly 50,000 in person on the West Lafayette campus. The PSON's undergrad program is ranked in the top 8% of programs nationally, with the MS program in the top 4% and the DNP in the top 9%, according to U.S. News and World Report. The SON has a diverse faculty, which includes 40 clinical and 14 research / tenure-track faculty members, who are leaders in the use of innovative educational approaches, including high-fidelity and virtual reality simulation and active learning strategies.
Duties and Expectations
The successful faculty member will be expected to initiate, conduct, and publish research, including garnering internal and external funding; to teach graduate and / or undergraduate level courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and to engage in service at the campus, community, state, and / or national level. Research activities should enhance or complement the School's priority areas of caring for older adults; family, maternal and child health; health promotion and population health; health policy and evaluation; health care systems and organizations; nursing education or mental health across the lifespan. The successful candidate will contribute scholarly research in NIH priority areas, College of Health and Human Sciences signature areas : Developmental Health and Wellness, Healthy Lifestyles and Vital Longevity, Sustainable and Thriving Communities and Organizations), and / or Purdue's One Health initiative.
Nursing Faculty Research Resources
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to capitalize on an extraordinary network of collaboration and resources that include strong support for interdisciplinary and translational research. The faculty member will receive mentorship, devoted time for research, and will have opportunities to collaborate with School of Nursing faculty, faculty members in the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS), and other academic units at Purdue. Faculty in the School can take advantage of Purdue's internal research grant programs and its wide array of research centers, such as the Center on Aging and the Life Course; Center for Families; Cooperative Extension; and Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering.
The School of Nursing takes excellent advantage of its research environment and ties to health care and other community organizations. The SON collaborates with the clinic's board to oversee 4 nurse-managed Federally Qualified Community Health Centers in rural, medically under-served communities in north central Indiana. These health centers, which serve an ethnically diverse population, many of whom are uninsured, are clinical training sites for nursing and other health professions. They also are excellent settings for health promotion and disease prevention research, quality improvement projects, and health disparity studies by nursing students and faculty.
The SON also has extensive ties to local and regional hospitals, health care systems, public health departments, and long-term care facilities. Faculty members are engaged in research projects with state health and human service agencies, and with colleagues at the Indiana University Schools of Nursing and Medicine and Roudebush VA Medical Center. Ties with Purdue Extension, which has staff on site in the School of Nursing, afford the opportunity to secure funding and collaborate with rural communities throughout Indiana for health-related research and continuing education projects.
Requirements of the Applicant
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in nursing (a Master's Degree in Nursing is preferred); a PhD in nursing or a related field in hand by the start date; and be eligible for licensure in Indiana.
