Job Summary

The ADA Administrator plays a key role in ensuring university compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related laws. This position serves as a subject matter expert on accommodation processes and provides guidance to both employees and managers in navigating ADA requirements. The ADA Administrator collaborates with various departments to foster an inclusive workplace by managing the accommodation request process, conducting assessments, and ensuring fair treatment of all employees. The role contributes directly to the university's commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and compliance.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the employee accommodation request process, from initial request through implementation, ensuring compliance with the ADA, the Rehabilitation Act, and applicable state laws. Serve as the primary contact for employees seeking accommodations and collaborate with department managers, HR, and medical professionals to assess and implement reasonable accommodations. Assist in resolving disputes related to accommodations by mediating discussions between employees and departments, aiming for fair and equitable outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Benefits team, HR, legal counsel, and other university departments to ensure smooth and legally sound accommodation processes. Regularly communicate with stakeholders about ADA processes and status updates on specific requests.
  • Work collaboratively with the Leaves Manager and Senior Benefits Administrator, Workers Compesation to ensure cohesive and consistent review and application of practices for STD and LTD leave policies, workers compensation claims and return to work, and accommodations.
  • Monitor developments in ADA case law, regulations, and best practices. Ensure that university policies remain up-to-date and compliant with evolving standards. Main confidential records of all accommodation requests and outcomes. Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and external legal requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and onboing refinement of ADA-related policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as university internal policies. Develop and deliver training programs for managers and employees on ADA requirements, accommodation processes, and best practices for fostering a collaborative workplace.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
  • Two or more years of experience in ADA administration or a similar role in human resources
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and related work experience
  • Experience working with accommodations and accessibility
  • Capability to be productive in a high performance team environment
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions, balance multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail and work independently
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures to proactively resolve issues or improve processes
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels within and external to the university to support department needs
  • Ability to identify problems and implement or recommend solutions
  • Ability to gather and analyze data to identify trends and propose a course of action based on findings, including identifying project priorities
  • Personal competencies in integrity, flexibility/adaptability, stress management, judgment/problem solving and drive for results
What Is Helpful:
  • A Master's Degree or certification in ADA
  • Experience within a large organization or academic setting
