What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Coordinator of Academic Success position at Purdue University?
The Program Coordinator within the Helen Bass Williams Academic Success Center (ASC), a unit of Student Success Programs, is responsible for the implementation of programs and services designed to optimize students’ academic engagement and experiences, learning and study strategies, course outcomes, retention, and overall success.
The Program Coordinator is an integral part of the ASC team and is responsible for providing learning strategy support, mentorship, and opportunities for learning, engagement, and success to students both directly (students) and indirectly (supporting student leaders who support students directly).
This Program Coordinator is charged with responsibilities in the Peer Success Coaching program (including student recruitment, training and observation, and supervision of the Peer Success Coaches, program develop, and support of consultation development). Additionally, this position will assist in general responsibilities of the ASC, including facilitating learning in one-on-one (consultations and supervision meetings), small group (trainings and committee meetings), large group (workshops and trainings), and passive modes and directing collateral projects for ASC graduate assistants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assigned Programmatic Area: Peer Success Coaching Program
- Supervise the Peer Success Coaches (PSCs)
- Facilitate the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of PSCs and senior PSCs
- Coordinate pre-semester training and on-going (biweekly) training based on the ASC student leader competencies
- Observe, evaluate, and provide on-going feedback about performance
- Mentor PSCs as holistic individuals and students
- Coordinate Peer Success Coaching Program logistics
- Marketing program to students and stakeholders
- Organizing logistics including scheduling, interest/intake form management, coaching assignments, and documentation
- Update program based on assessment and feedback
- Contribute to other ASC programming areas as needed, including providing study skills consultations; mentoring ASC graduate students on collateral projects; supporting all-ASC events such as pre-semester trainings, Parent and Family Weekend event, student leader recruitment and hiring, and end of semester celebrations, etc.; supporting and representing the larger Student Success Programs department as needed
- Assist ASC leadership in planning and executing tasks including provide targeted academic support; promote academic success through strategic use of resources; collaborate with campus partners to strengthen efforts; contribute to graduate assistant training and development; and support efforts of Student Success Programs department
- Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- Two (2) years of experience in areas of advising, teaching, academic coaching and/or other forms of academic assistance, student support, and/or program development (consideration will be given to two years of undergraduate or graduate work in these same areas).
Skills:
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to quickly learn online systems and software (EAB Navigate/BoilerConnect; Qualtrics; Microsoft Office; Cascade, etc.) and efficiently manage systems at a proficient level
- Ability to facilitate student learning in individual, small group, classroom, and virtual settings
- Ability to represent the values of the ASC, Student Success Programs, and university to internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and as part of team
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Ability to think quickly and creatively in problem-solving and planning
- Ability to work some nights and weekends that are occasionally
Nice to Have:
- Master’s Degree in higher education administration, college student affairs, counseling, education or other relevant discipline
- Prior experience in higher education; experience with peer learning programs
- A background check will be required for employment in this position
