Corporate Staff ASL Interpreter (HR Interpreter)
Corporate Staff ASL Interpreter Job Responsibilities:
Interpret and facilitate using American Sign Language to voice and voice to American Sign Language for communication between employees, potential employees, vendors, customers, business meetings and a wide variety of business-related events.
Interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially for all parties involved.
Maintain and adhere to strict confidentiality rules and standards, and follow the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct and Standard Practices.
Work in a team environment to relieve or assist other staff interpreters as needed.
Interpret for community-based assignments, and/or ad-hoc corporate events.
Maintain Staff Interpreter calendar and manage interpreting requests for Staff Interpreters.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Corporate Staff ASL Interpreter Qualifications/Skills:
Certified Interpreter through Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, National Association of the Deaf (level IV or V), CI or CT, Comprehensive Skills Certification, and/or through approved state or national associations highly preferred.
At least 5 years of experience as a sign language interpreter in a variety of settings.
Understanding of regional dialects, and the ability to read various signing styles.
Knowledge and application of Interpreting profession's standards and ethics.
Large vocabulary and professionalism to handle a variety of business related meetings.
Must possess a comprehensive understanding of deaf culture.
Strong sign to voice skills and the ability to switch linguistic modes quickly.
Cultural mediation skills.
Proven customer service abilities.
Ability to type with sufficient speed and accuracy to perform job functions as required.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and common sense skills.
Work environment:
Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time.
Interpreting using sign language and voice communication skills (80–90%)
Sitting, standing and walking (95-100%)
Keyboarding (40-60%)
Viewing computer monitor, videophone, and cell phone (40-60%)
Lifting computers and other equipment.
Position may require some travel.
