Construction Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Tahoma Construction Services (TCS), a general contracting subsidiary of Puyallup Tribal Enterprises, is looking for a Construction Accountant to join our dynamic team! Must have experience in all aspects of general construction accounting and is responsible for various accounting functions in the support of construction projects.

 TCS is focused on leveraging our existing assets to generate above-market returns for the Puyallup Tribe and our strategic partners. We are looking for highly motivated professionals with proven technical, strategic, and analytical skills. This critical role will support our accounting and leadership teams as we continue to grow and diversify our business.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Excellent attendance
• Work with Project Assistants and Project Managers to generate and distribute subcontracts via Procore
• Track the status of subcontracts and sync executed subcontracts between Procore and Accounting Software ensuring execution and compliance
• Collect and track insurance records and ensure that all subcontractors are properly insured and licensed prior to start and throughout the duration of the project
• Process all subcontract change orders including syncing between Procore and Accounting Software, and record-keeping in both Procore and company job folders
• Manage contractual risks through synchronization of documents (i.e. certificates of insurance, lien waivers.)
• Collect and enter all labor hours into both Accounting Software and Procore
• Collect and save all final statements and lien waivers to company folders
• Review all subcontractors and supplier preliminary lien waivers for accuracy
• Process all Subcontract payment applications
• Communicate consistently and effectively with subcontractors to reconcile pay application status with respect to original contracts, change orders, and pending change orders
• Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with all subcontractors, suppliers, and vendor representatives
• Process all general invoices, ensuring company policies are maintained
• Process all credit card transactions and reconcile statements monthly
• Manage vendor account setup per company policies
• Identify opportunities for improvements, identify potential areas of risk, and share information with key stakeholders to maximize results throughout TCS
• Use all company resources efficiently to promote maximum financial results for TCS; maintain TCS equipment and assets to maximize return on investment
• Establish and maintain effective business relationships and with all employees, vendors, business partners, government/regulatory entities, and communities in which we operate
• Strictly follow workplace safety measures; safeguard the welfare of all employees, guests, visitors, and business partners at all times; promptly report workplace risks, incidents, injuries, and near misses 
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all sensitive and proprietary business information and safeguard TCS assets at all times

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum      

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent
• 5 years relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years of construction accounting experience with a licensed contractor
• Experience in job costing at the project level
• Working knowledge of GAAP and its practical application in a dynamic business environment
• Strong understanding of the Subcontractor to General Contractor relationship
• Proficient in data entry, accounts payable, accounts receivable and vendor payment
• Strong PC and MS Office skills; experience with enterprise accounting software in an integrated financial system
• Expert level knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, filters, data analysis)
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to effectively multi-task, and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
• Self-driven and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
• Uncompromising integrity and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Ability to occasionally work non-standard hours to accommodate business needs
• Ability to pass background check 

Preferred      

• Experience with Prevailing Wage Projects/Public Works
• Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP and/or Procore
