The Senior Director, Tax will lead the QTS tax department providing research, expertise, recommendations, and resolutions in complex areas such as income tax compliance, structuring, and planning. This position will report to the Vice President, Global Tax and will work with senior management, other functional groups, and business units with the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES, Other Duties May Be Assigned
- Build and develop “first class” income tax team.
- Comply with and understand REIT structuring and tax reporting requirements, including income and asset tests.
- Lead tax-structuring of acquisitions, joint-ventures, dispositions, mergers, etc.
- Delegate direct/indirect reports to develop tax automation processes, maintain detailed records, analyze and research complex tax issues.
- Oversee Federal and State income tax compliance for the company including, but not limited to, REITs, TRSs, partnerships, and non-US entities. Tax returns outsourced to external tax advisor.
- Oversee preparation for and conduct of all tax related audits from Federal and State income tax agencies.
- Implement changes in tax and management information systems for the company.
- Manage communications to partners and various investors.
- Assist VP with the financial analyses, reports, due diligence and recommendations for new opportunities.
- Prepare correspondences and presentation materials to executives in seeking approval or implementation of tax strategy.
- Oversee complex allocation of partnership income to hundreds of individuals and existing partners.
- Advise and partner with businesses and group corporate functions to provide recommendations, efficient solutions, and integrated implementation plans.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and a capacity to manage shifting priorities.
- Ability to prioritize and oversee multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Develop and implement process improvements in the Company’s tax procedures utilizing tax technology tolls to simplify and automate complex processes.
- Lead staff and managers of both the Tax and other key departments with the Company.
- Must be comfortable dealing with issues and topics outside of their traditional tax training and running projects fully from start to finish.
- Bachelors or Masters in Tax/or Tax Accounting preferred.
- Must have minimum 10 - 14 years’ experience in Tax, Tax Accounting, Tax Compliance and strategic planning and execution.
- Big 4 or regional public accounting experience.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with senior management and client administration.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to motivate team members and work efficiently, follow deadlines and have good working relationships with other departments.
- Must have a strong sense of confidentiality.
