Payroll Specialist
SolomonEdwards is immediately seeking an on-site Payroll Specialist on a contract basis for a firm located in Pennsville, NJ.
The Payroll Specialist will be preparing and processing payroll for union and non-union employees. They will also be preparing and processing employee-related expenses using a computerized Accounts Payable System. This includes maintaining and enhancing an electronic payroll system, maintaining policies and procedures, and the administrative duties related to payroll and employee expenses. In addition to payroll this position will also function as an accounting back-up that includes accounts payable processing, journal entries and some Fixed Asset support.
Responsibilities of the Payroll Specialist
- Acts as a subject matter expert and/or resource to others in the area of payroll processing.
- Maintains the electronic payroll system and liaises to Paychex payroll processing service.
- Independently reviews and evaluates payroll processing procedures and systems. Recommends appropriate changes, including policies and procedures to comply with the Affordable Care Act.
- Ensures the processing of biweekly payroll for union employees. This includes setup of proper statutory and volunteer deductions; enter all payroll changes, track vacation and sick time, and audit of weekly payroll, garnishments and distribution of paychecks as well as processing/tracking disability payments for Union employees.
- Prepare management reports as required including overtime reports, monthly seniority list, monthly pension hours, headcount reports, safety KPI and production hours worked.
- Responsible for the preparation of miscellaneous external reports and government required filings.
- Processes employee-related expenses.
- Manages company purchasing card program and Amex Travel Account.
- Administers employee rewards program.
- Prepares bi-weekly payroll related journal entries.
- Prepares journal entries and account reconciliation as required.
- Functions as back-up to the accounts payable function.
- Acts as back up for fixed asset accounting.
Requirements of the Payroll Specialist
- An Associate Degree in Accounting or Business preferred
- 5 plus years of experience in payroll processing and accounting practices.
- Must have excellent computer skills (MS Office) and computerized payroll-processing experience (Paychex preferred)
- Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations and procedures is required.
- Experience within a manufacturing or union environment is preferred.
Additional Details:
Salary Range: $40hr-$45hr
Employment Type: Temp/Contract (6 plus months)
Location – Pennsville, NJ 08070 (on-site)
The specific compensation for this role will be determined based on the education, experience, location and skill set of the individual selected for this position.
