Position Overview
The Product Testing Lab Technician is responsible for performing technical tasks to test new product designs or offerings for compliance with building standards. The position will safely follow testing protocol and record results. The Product Testing Lab Technician will also maintain testing equipment. The position is also responsible for travel to offside testing facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow specified testing protocol for conducting testing
- Inspect and compare the products received to the provided documentation and report any discrepancies
- Inspect products to ensure quality and accuracy
- Install product into buck, chamber or fixtures for testing
- Gather and maintain knowledge on computer-controlled testing equipment
- Maintain awareness of testing variables and take necessary safety precautions during testing
- Document testing results, retain samples and prepare reports to record results
- Notify the Quality Team of issues observed
- Conduct root-cause analysis to identify source of known quality issues
- Maintain equipment and calibrations
- Fabricate fixtures, jigs and test equipment
- Travel to offsite testing facilities
- Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
- Interact and communicate with employees and customers in an appropriate manner.
- Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
- Communicate via email & prepare reports.
- Review and analyze testing results.
- Plan, prioritize and monitor testing activities.
- Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.
Safety
Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment; report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly. Follow job-specific safety requirements such as Ladder Safety, Power and Manual Tool Safety, Safe Lift and Scaffold Safety. The individual must follow all safe driving laws and any on-site safety requirements.
Travel
Approximately 15-20% travel is required to visit testing facilities, for commuting between the Quaker campuses or for professional development.
Qualifications
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, Outlook
- Ability to interpret and apply technical drawings, data and standards
- Familiar with the use of power tools & measuring equipment
- Familiar with drafting software - AutoCAD preferred but not required
- Must maintain valid driver's license
Preferred Education and Experience
An individual is expected to have the minimum level of education and/or related expertise listed here:
- High school diploma or a passed General Education Development test
- Manufacturing and/or Construction background preferred
- Welding Experience preferred

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to climactic variations, fumes or airborne particles, various levels of vibration, and moving mechanical parts. Various different types of Personal Protective Equipment might be required based on the employee's work location. The noise level in the work environment may require hearing protection.
