Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized part time Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in behavioral and mental health billing and coding, with a thorough understanding of mental health / behavioral health terminology and strong knowledge of billing process. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate billing processes and maintaining the integrity of patient records. The Billing Specialist will be responsible for reviewing billing cycles, reviewing, investigating, and reprocessing denied claims, and resolving discrepancies to ensure timely payments.
Responsibilities
- Process and submit rebilling of claims to insurance companies .
- Reviewing for accuracy and completeness, ensuring all necessary documentation is present.
- Follow up on outstanding claims, denials, and manage rebilling accounts to ensure timely collection of payments.
- Communicate with NC Medicaid MCO entities, NC PHP's, Medicare, and private insurance companies regarding claim denials, appeals, and payment issues.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with clinical office staff to resolve billing inquiries and discrepancies.
- Stay updated on changes in behavioral and mental health billing regulations, coding practices, and insurance policies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a behavioral and mental health setting with a focus on billing and reconciliation.
- Strong knowledge of behavioral and mental health terminology and billing processes.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and platform billing software and electronic visit verification (EVV) systems is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for problem-solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively with NC Medicaid MCO's, PHP's, Medicare, and private insurance companies.
- Certification in Medical Billing or Coding is a plus but not required.
