Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controller to own the day‑to‑day accounting operations, safeguard financial integrity, and optimize cash flow. Reporting to the President, you will participate in the leadership of the company and provide hands‑on oversight to our AR, AP, payroll, and treasury functions while driving strategic initiatives around cost accounting, liquidity management, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Accounting Operations
- Manage the full-cycle accounting process: general ledger, journal entries, month‑end close, fixed-asset registers, and reconciliations.
- Oversee direct reports responsible for payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong internal controls.
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
- Manage relationships with external auditors and oversee annual financial audits.
- Monitor and fulfill obligations related to credit agreements, bank covenants, and other financial reporting commitments.
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, partnering with outside tax advisors as needed.
- Financial Analysis & Cost Accounting
- Apply deep cost accounting expertise within a manufacturing environment to analyze product costs, variances, and profit margins.
- Deliver actionable insights and reporting to support pricing, budgeting, and operational decision‑making.
- Cash Conversion & Liquidity Management
- Maintain laser focus on cash conversion metrics, working capital optimization, and cash‐flow forecasting.
- Develop and maintain cash‐management strategies to ensure liquidity for ongoing operations and growth initiatives.
- Process Improvement & Controls
- Establish, document, and monitor policies and procedures that strengthen financial oversight and safeguard company assets.
- Identify and implement process enhancements—automation, system upgrades, or workflow redesigns—to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
- Strategic Planning & Collaboration
- Partner with operations, sales, and supply‑chain teams to align financial planning with business objectives.
- Lead the annual budgeting and rolling‑forecast processes, providing variance analysis and forward‑looking financial models.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA/CMA certification strongly preferred.
- 7 years of progressive, hands‑on accounting experience—ideally within manufacturing or packaging operations.
- Proven track record managing payroll and AR/AP teams and driving day‑to‑day accounting excellence.
- Advanced analytical skills, with a mastery of cost accounting principles, variance analysis, and financial modeling.
- Demonstrated expertise in cash‑flow management, working capital optimization, and liquidity planning.
- Advanced Excel capabilities.
- Strong communicator and collaborator, able to influence cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Detail‑oriented, proactive problem‑solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
