Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Maintenance of Industrial Electrical Systems:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in industrial environments.
- Work on large-scale electrical systems including motors, transformers, generators, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
- Install and maintain control systems, industrial automation, and instrumentation.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues in high-voltage and complex systems, including motor controls, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Use electrical testing devices such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and thermal imaging cameras to detect issues.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning electrical systems and components.
- Electrical System Upgrades and Modifications:
- Perform upgrades and modifications to existing electrical systems to meet increased production demands or comply with updated regulations.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to modify electrical layouts.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to improve the efficiency of electrical systems and equipment.
- Preventive Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical systems to prevent downtime or equipment failure.
- Maintain and inspect electrical equipment such as motors, transformers, power distribution systems, and automated machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Record and log maintenance activities, noting repairs and inspections in preventive maintenance schedules.
- Compliance with Industrial Codes and Safety Standards:
- Ensure that all electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, and other relevant industrial codes.
- Follow safety protocols to mitigate risks, especially when working with high-voltage equipment.
- Conduct lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to safely de-energize equipment during repairs or installations.
- Supervision and Training:
- Provide guidance to Electrical Apprentices and Helpers, overseeing their work to ensure tasks are performed safely and correctly.
- Share technical knowledge and practical skills with junior team members, fostering a learning environment.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments such as mechanical, hydraulic, and automation teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with overall operations.
- Coordinate with plant managers, engineers, and safety officers to ensure that electrical projects are completed on time and within compliance guidelines.
- Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare reports on system performance, outlining any issues, upgrades, or potential problems.
- Ensure that electrical documentation is up to date and complies with industry standards.
- License: Must hold a valid Journeyman Electrician license (specific to the state or region of employment).
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in industrial electrical work, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial systems.
- Education: Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program, with training focused on industrial electrical systems, automation, and controls.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, including motor controls, high-voltage systems, PLCs, and VFDs.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
- Skilled in the use of electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, meggers, ammeters).
- Knowledge of industrial safety practices, including LOTO, arc flash, and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, or around industrial machinery.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various environments, including hot or cold conditions.
- Willingness to work extended hours, including night shifts or weekends, depending on the needs of the facility.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical problems in an industrial setting.
