Position Summary:

The Michigan cannabis industry is rapidly expanding, and Quality Roots, a key player in the industry, is looking for an experienced Purchasing Agent to join our team. The Purchasing Agent will help promote and purchase our unique brands, products, store locations and cannabis lifestyle through various forms of marketing and promotion.

Core Duties:

  • Assortment Planning:
    • Collaborate with category managers and merchandisers to curate product assortments that align with market trends, customer preferences, and company strategy.
    • Analyze sales data, competitor offerings, and consumer insights to identify opportunities for new products and optimize existing assortments.
    • Maintain awareness of emerging trends and innovations in the relevant product categories.
  • Demand Forecasting:
    • Utilize historical sales data, market intelligence, and statistical models to forecast product demand accurately.
    • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and operations teams to incorporate relevant factors into demand forecasts.
    • Continuously monitor and adjust forecasts based on actual sales performance and changing market conditions.
  • Vendor Relationship Management:
    • Establish and nurture strong relationships with key vendors and suppliers.
    • Evaluate vendor performance based on quality, cost, reliability, and service.
    • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions with vendors, including pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
    • Resolve any disputes or issues with vendors in a timely and professional manner.
  • Product Sourcing and Negotiation:
    • Identify and source high-quality products that meet company standards and customer expectations.
    • Negotiate competitive prices and contract terms with suppliers.
    • Ensure compliance with ethical sourcing and sustainability practices.
  • Product Delivery and Logistics:
    • Coordinate with vendors and logistics providers to ensure timely and efficient product deliveries.
    • Monitor and track shipments to prevent delays or disruptions.
    • Address any logistical issues or challenges promptly.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability and minimize carrying costs.
    • Implement inventory control measures to prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
    • Collaborate with processing center and operations teams to optimize inventory management processes.
  • Cost Analysis and Control:
    • Conduct regular cost analyses to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
    • Negotiate favorable pricing and payment terms with vendors.
    • Implement cost control measures to minimize expenses and maximize profitability.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan and procure 3rd party products for assigned retail locations.
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with key vendors; negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and agreements; collaborate with internal departments on contract execution.
  • Uphold ethical business practices and represent Quality Roots positively in all interactions.
  • Track purchase orders within the designated system to ensure complete, accurate, and timely deliveries; facilitate prompt vendor payments.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to manage new product introductions, incoming products, and pricing strategies.
  • Monitor sales and inventory reports with the Director of Purchasing to guarantee sufficient product availability.
  • Work with the Director of Purchasing to establish competitive pricing strategies that achieve desired profit margins.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive sales reporting and product performance metrics in collaboration with the Director of Purchasing.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and potential new vendors; cultivate and maintain relationships with new vendors.
  • Understand company requirements through store manager feedback, stock, inventory, projects, plans, and market trends.
  • Maintain a detail-oriented approach with a focus on process optimization.
  • Thrive in a dynamic environment, manage high-pressure situations, and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Market Research: Stay informed about market trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies in the relevant industries.
  • Supplier Diversity: Actively seek out and engage with diverse suppliers to promote inclusivity and support local businesses.
  • Sustainability: Prioritize sustainable sourcing practices and environmentally responsible products.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on purchasing activities, performance metrics, and cost savings initiatives.

Job Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Applicants must be able to pass a background check.
  • Knowledge of cannabis products is required.
  • 1 years of industry experience is preferred.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making and excellent organizational skills are essential.
  • Applicants must have effective communication and confident negotiation skills when working with vendors and colleagues.
  • Applicants must be able to efficiently meet deadlines, leverage business data analysis and software, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Applicants must have experience and ability to effectively manage priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of cannabis industry regulations is required.
  • Applicants must be flexible to work in stores as needed.
  • Able to bend, stand, and sit for extended periods, and lift up to 20 lbs.

Compensation:

The salary for this position is between $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year, and is negotiable depending on your experience.
