Job Overview:
As a CNC Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to cut, shape, and finish stone materials such as granite, marble, and limestone. Your role will involve precise programming, setup, and monitoring of CNC equipment to ensure the production of high-quality stone products according to specifications. You will also be responsible for handling stone materials throughout the fabrication process. Your role will involve the safe and efficient movement of stone slabs and blocks and finished products within the shop.
Key Responsibilities:
CNC Machine Operation:
- Operate and monitor CNC machines to cut, shape, and finish stone materials.
- Load and unload stone slabs and blocks onto CNC machines; secure (fixture) stone in place.
- Set up, adjust, and calibrate CNC machines to ensure accurate and precise cutting.
Programming:
- Create and modify CNC programs using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software.
- Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to program CNC machines accordingly.
- Generate tool paths based on 3D models and convert them into machine-readable code.
- Optimize programs for efficient material utilization and reduced waste.
Quality Control:
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
- Monitor the machining process and make adjustments to CNC programs as needed to achieve the desired results.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to ensure optimal performance.
Material Handling:
- Safely move and handle stone materials throughout the fabrication process.
- Coordinate with team members to ensure the efficient flow of materials.
- Use lifting equipment and tools to transport and position stone slabs and blocks.
- Block layout and slab layout: arrange and position stone blocks and slabs to optimize the use of the stone material, minimize waste, and achieve the desired aesthetic and functional result.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures for both CNC machine operation and material handling.
- Follow industry regulations and best practices for stone fabrication.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of production activities including machine settings, material usage, and production times.
- Document any adjustments made to CNC programs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical education or certification in CNC machining is a plus.
- Work experience as a CNC Operator in the stone cutting, fabrication or quarrying industry, metals, wood, or mill work industries.
- OSHA 10-hour training course in general industry
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for programming CNC machines.
- Strong attention to detail and precision.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to industry regulations.
- Capacity to solve minor issues that may arise during CNC machine operation such as adjusting equipment settings or troubleshooting basic technical problems.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical strength and stamina for manual labor and lifting stone materials.
- Good physical strength and coordination to operate lifting equipment, cranes, and other machinery used in the material handling process.
- Ability to safely handle and transport stone materials using appropriate lifting equipment and techniques.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during CNC machine operation and material handling tasks.
- Maneuver and move around the shop to handle materials and perform various duties.
- Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle tools, operate CNC machinery controls, and perform intricate tasks.
- Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or high areas as needed for CNC machine setup.
- Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods without compromising accuracy and attention to detail.
