Assistant Principal
Key Responsibilities:
Building Leadership:
- Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility.
- Maintains an emotionally healthy and physically safe environment conducive to the total educational development of the students and the professional development of the staff.
- Plans and organizes all school-related activities.
- Disciplines students as necessary.
- Tracks and monitors SSEC information.
- Acts as 504 Coordinator.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and other paperwork required for the school's administration.
- Assists in supervising the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
- Participates on the Building Leadership Team and Shared Decision Making Team.
- Attends and participates in PTSA Committee meetings.
- Keeeps the Principal informed of the school's activities and problems.
- Assists in supervision of the cafeteria for the daily lunch program.
Instructional Leadership:
- Collaborates with the Principal on instructional best practices, strategies, and professional development needs.
- Supports a culture of collegiality within the framework of Professional Learning Communities.
- Initiates and encourages teacher use of student data from local and state assessments to improve instruction.
- Assists with overseeing the implementation of local and state assessments.
- Assists with the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum, including serving on curriculum committees.
- Assists with the supervision of the school's teaching process through announced and unannounced observations.
- Facilitates the Character Education Committee.
- Acts as Transitional Coordinator for grades 3-5.
- Participates as a committee member of various K-3 curricular committees.
Personnel and Employee Relations:
- Supervises and evaluates professional, paraprofessional, and support personnel attached to the school and assigned to them for that purpose.
- Oversees scheduling: Master, support staff, and all assemblies that occur throughout the year.
- Assists with the orientation of newly assigned/hired staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.
- Assists with staff meetings on a regular basis for proper functioning of the school and to keep staff members informed of policy changes and new programs.
- Assists with recommendations, while following established procedures, for the removal of a teacher or other staff member whose work is unsatisfactory.
- Assists with the in-service training/professional development provided on superintendent conference days.
- Assists in the recruitment, selection, and hiring of new staff for the building.
- Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the assistant principal and/or principal.
- Participates on the Response to Intervention Committee and Literacy Team.
Student/Parent/Community Relations:
- Maintains active two-way communications with students, parents, and the community through the use of technology and other media.
- Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
- Supervises and evaluates the school's extracurricular program, including all clubs and activities.
- Assists with cafeteria fines.
- Assists with the administrative coverage required during after-school activities and evening events.
- Functions as Attendance Coordinator.
- Assists with the development and distribution of QES Planner/Agenda.
Other Duties:
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Functions as Safety Coordinator for the QES.
- Participates in building department meetings, district-level meetings, Board meetings, negotiation meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
- Responds to written and oral requests for information.
- Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation programs.
- Oversees website maintenance for the QES.
- Oversees E-School Messenger communications for the QES.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Coordinates QES events information with District Communication Specialist.
