Senior Purchaser
Summary
The Senior Purchaser is responsible for managing procurement activities, including competitive quotations, new supplier development, alternative product sourcing, and effective order placement. This role also involves proactive inventory and delivery management, working closely with vendors and subcontractors to ensure timely and cost-efficient procurement. The Senior Purchaser will lead improvement initiatives, manage staff training, and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to support operational efficiency and production planning.
Essential Duties
Obtain competitive quotations, develop new suppliers, and explore alternative products.
Provide valuable information during the development stage and place profitable orders.
Manage effective delivery date schedules, considering storage optimization and efficient warehouse operations.
Generate quotes for new semi-finished or specially specified products, using bills of materials and fabrication drawings.
Predict and accurately report delivery dates of critical parts and subcontractor production capacity for production planning.
Lead self-directed improvement activities, such as reducing excess inventory.
Conduct educational training to improve both teaching and learning skills within the team.
Plan and prioritize tasks, ensuring completion and guiding team members.
Monitor market fluctuations in copper, steel, and other materials.
Maintain a thorough understanding of the suppliers and subcontractors involved in the procurement process.
Negotiate proactively with vendors, sharing information to mitigate potential problems.
Report on price negotiations, including the process and background, not just the results.
Foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration to address difficult issues.
Place monthly orders for parts based on regular needs, considering supplier production planning.
Track and monitor suppliers' operational information and potential risks.
Maintain regular contact with suppliers to preemptively address potential delays and issues.
