Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: This position reports to the Surgical Technology Program Director. In addition to teaching, the primary responsibility of this position is maintaining and establishing clinical relationships. The Clinical Coordinator will also assist the Program Director with maintaining programmatic accreditation.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree preferred. Bachelor's Degree and current CST certification required.
Qualification Requirements
Minimum five (5) years' experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten (10) years.
Prior Teaching Experience Preferred.
Must have a valid, unrestricted driver's license
Experience instructing students from a diverse background;
Experience using technology in the classroom and for distance learning, and traditional/nontraditional methods of instruction prferred;
Demonstration of professional activity aimed toward maintaining currency in the discipline.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of Quincy College's certification program (Canvas, Quality Matters, Canvas Studio) for teaching or, in the sole determination of Quincy College, the equivalent of that program.
COORDINATORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
TRAVEL: This position may require teaching at Quincy Campus, Plymouth Campus, and Boston instructional location and travel to clinical sites.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Extensive use of hands/wrists for keyboarding
Must be able to reach overhead and bend to access supplies, equipment, etc.
Must be able to teach surgical technology students hands-on in the lab; this may include lifting items that are somewhat heavy, maneuvering equipment, and standing for long periods of time
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Clinical Coordination
Assist in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the program.
Assist in the development of standards for admission, progression, and graduation of students as directed.
Maintain theoretical and clinical expertise in the assigned content areas and utilize current instructional methodologies in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings.
Supervise and/or coordinate the supervision of students in the clinical setting, adhering to the established clinical objectives and activities.
Complete student evaluations utilizing the established evaluation criteria and time frame.
Serve as a professional role model and resource person for students and for clinical personnel or
Assist in the collection of student records regarding clinical preparatory information (immunization record, CPR certification, malpractice insurance, physicals and health insurance information, CORI check) according to department's needs. Follow up with written documents to students and Program Director reflecting missing required documents. Organize required documents and distribute to clinical affiliates;
Plan for and complete student clinical rotation assignments and submit to the appropriate clinical personnel as directed.
Maintain records of student progress, grades, attendance and absences, adhering to the established policies;
Maintain records of clinical preceptor education and qualification;
Participate in the development of the semester schedule and abide by the schedule as approved by the Surgical Technology Program Director and the Dean of Natural and Health Sciences for classroom, laboratory, clinical, and office hours.
Maintain cooperative relationships with clinical agency personnel and participate in clinical agency activities as assigned.
Assure agreements between the College and all clinical affiliates remain current.
Maintain radiation monitors and exposure reports for faculty and students.
Maintain current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
Assume other related duties as assigned.
Teaching
Prepare and teach core Surgical Technology program courses according to college and program faculty procedures;
Assist in the planning and development of instructional resources for students in Surgical Technology which support program learning objectives, meet requirements of secondary accreditors, and prepare students for board certification/licensure exam;
Evaluate student performance using varied assessment tools consistent with accreditation requirements and instructional design best practices;
Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic progress;
Recognize individual differences in the classroom, and adapt instructional techniques accordingly;
Encourage and motivate students to do their best while using positive/professional manner;
Refer students to appropriate staff, office or resource person for information, guidance, financial assistance, placement, etc.;
Enforce regulations in the school catalog and student handbook;
Attend scheduled faculty, department, and committee meetings;
Participate in meetings with the Program Director weekly to coordinate lesson plans, teaching schedule, discuss progress of individual students, and ensure accreditation compliance;
Maintain student advising, open laboratory, and office hours;
Participate in divisional and college-wide faculty assignments and committees as assigned;
Assume other related duties as assigned;
