What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reference / Information Services Specialist position at Quincy Public Library?
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
The Reference & Events Specialist will assist in coordinating programs and events for teens and adults. Additionally, this position will assist in providing reference services and answering patron’s questions to assure high patron satisfaction. Provides assistance with the preparation and execution of library programs and events. Promotes the use of library resources through community contact. Serves as the staff point person during events, as requested. Participates in the planning and development of community outreach events and library-wide campaigns, including the annual Summer Reading Program. Responds to patron inquiries for information or assistance, including in person, telephone, mail and electronic. Provide friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable customer service. Assist and instruct patrons using virtual resources, downloading digital content, using publicly available technology including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, fax, etc. in scheduled group programs or one-on-one training sessions. Regularly work at the service desk and provide reference and reader’s advisory assistance. Plans and executes bibliographies, book displays, and other promotional materials relating to adults. Stay abreast of new technologies and library trends. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Two years programming or related experience and/or library experience preferred. Ability to multi-task. Proficiency with electronic resources and the ability to use library databases. Ability to work well with patrons and staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Creative and enthusiastic person with the ability to work with all ages. Reliable and self-motivated. Demonstrated computer experience required. Knowledge of word processing, desktop publishing and library software preferred. Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
