Position Overview
The Vice President of Operations (VP of Operations) will oversee the national operations of a leading food distribution company. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of operations, including logistics, supply chain, distribution, warehousing, inventory management, and quality control. The VP of Operations will work closely with the Senior Vice President of Operations, senior leadership team, and various department heads to ensure operational efficiency, drive continuous improvement, and maintain the highest standards of safety for our team members and service for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
•Strategic Leadership:
o Develop and implement the operational strategy aligned with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
oLead, mentor, and develop the operations team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
oDrive innovation in operations to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction.
•Supply Chain Management:
oOversee all aspects of the supply chain, from procurement to delivery, ensuring that food products are delivered on time, in full, and within quality standards.
oManage supplier relationships and negotiate contracts to ensure favorable terms and consistency in supply.
oEnsure compliance with all food safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
•Logistics & Distribution Oversight:
oLead the logistics and transportation teams to optimize national distribution networks, ensuring on-time delivery and cost-effective transportation solutions.
o Implement data-driven strategies to manage fleet operations, warehouse facilities, and distribution points across the country.
•Operational Excellence & Process Improvement:
o Continuously evaluate and optimize operational workflows to drive cost reductions and operational efficiencies.
oFoster a culture of operational excellence through the implementation of Lean, Six Sigma, and other best practices.
o Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor operational performance and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
•Budget & Financial Management:
oDevelop and manage the operations budget, ensuring cost controls are in place and that the department operates within financial targets.
oAnalyze financial reports to identify areas for improvement and create cost-saving initiatives.
oDeveloping and managing Budgets, P&Ls and key performance indicators
•Cross-functional Collaboration:
oCollaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service teams to ensure seamless communication between departments and alignment on client expectations.
oWork closely with IT to enhance systems and processes that drive operational performance and integrate advanced technology into the supply chain.
•Compliance & Risk Management:
oEnsure all operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including food safety, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
oDevelop and manage risk mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions in the supply chain and ensure business continuity.
Qualifications:
•Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
o Certifications in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., APICS, Six Sigma) are highly desired.
•Experience:
o10 years of progressive experience in operations management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in the food distribution or related industry.
oProven track record of successfully managing large-scale, complex operations across multiple regions.
oStrong experience with food safety standards, inventory management, and distribution logistics.
•Skills & Abilities:
o Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
o Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
o Ability to manage competing priorities and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
o Expertise in warehouse management systems (WMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and other operational software.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to travel as needed to oversee operations at various distribution centers and facilities.
