General Description:
The Maintenance Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for various equipment and facilities maintenance. This position requires an individual with basic knowledge of general maintenance and one who can perform with supervisory input from maintenance supervisor or senior maintenance mechanics. Dependability and attention to detail are also required characteristics. The maintenance work environment involves the handling of hazardous chemicals. The ability to use a personal respirator is required. The physical demands of this position may involve standing for extended periods as well as frequent lifting of items weighing between 40-75 lbs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide maintenance support to other departments
- Provide equipment maintenance including repair and preventive maintenance of production and facilities equipment
- Complete assigned daily and job specific tasks
- Provide building maintenance
- Install or relocate equipment
- Practice safe and efficient work habits
- Direct maintenance operators as required
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Read and understand schematics and written procedures
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance including knowledge of troubleshooting equipment and systems, plumbing, steam, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, pumps and welding.
Special Tasks and Focus Areas:
- Provide maintenance support to other departments
- Respond to production requirements
- Adjust priorities to ensure critical operations experience minimal downtime
- Recognize and correct, repair, or report facility or equipment problems independently
- Communicate with area supervisor/manager/lead person as to status of maintenance work order(s)
- Provide equipment maintenance including repair and preventive maintenance of production and facilities equipment
- Troubleshooting, repairing and preventive maintenance of production and facilities equipment often assisting senior maintenance mechanics
- Conduct preventive maintenance
- Exercise some knowledge of mechanical systems, compressors and vacuum systems
- Perform building maintenance including cooler servicing and repair, boiler maintenance and testing, painting, cleaning, and roofing repairs
- Cleanup work area removing all tools, debris, dirt, overspray, etc.
- Complete assigned daily and job specific tasks
- Complete jobs on time as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Facilities Engineer or the Chief Facilities Engineer
- Monitor chemical waste in manufacturing and accumulation areas
- Will be responsible for handling all chemical waste materials including
- Weekly inspection of satellite waste accumulation areas
- Consolidating waste in satellite waste accumulation areas
- Moving full drums away from satellite waste accumulation areas and providing properly labeled new waste containers
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of waste disposal areas
- Provide building maintenance
- Assist in the installation of new, or relocate existing, equipment with all required utilities, including water, compressed air, electrical (three phase), steam, hydraulic, and vacuum
- Identify location of all utilities
- Assist in the installation of all required utilities
- Safely rig and move equipment
- Cleanup work area removing all tools, debris, dirt, overspray, etc.

- Be dependable and honest with good work ethics
- Direct maintenance operators as required
- Assign specific tasks when operators are helping on a job
- Ensure that co-workers are wearing required PPE
- Will be responsible for handling all chemical waste materials including
“AA/EOE/W/M/Vet/Disable”
