General Description:
The Quality Assurance Supervisor reports to the Quality Assurance Manager. The Quality Supervisor is responsible for the daily activities required to meet quality, delivery, budgetary, and safety goals. The Supervisor will lead, motivate, and direct others towards those goals. The position requires a person who is quality orientated with strong organization, communication, and problem solving skills. The Supervisor will interact with customers, vendors, and all levels of employees within the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Direct supervision of the Quality Inspectors and Technicians (overtime may be required)
- Oversee inspection and testing activities
- Control non-conforming material in production areas
- Oversee quality document/record filing and maintenance
- Ensure a safe work environment
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Associates degree in a technical or management field is preferred
- Minimum of seven (7) yrs experience in quality assurance with 2 yrs of supervisory experience
- 2 yrs experience within an Aerospace or DOD organization preferred
- Proficient computer skills, math skills, and blue print reading
- Significant knowledge of mechanical inspection gauge usage required
- Visual acuity equal to Jaeger 1 minimum, either corrected or uncorrected
- Formal training in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is preferred
- Rubber and/or rubber components manufacturing experience preferred
Specific Tasks and Focus Areas:
- Direct supervision of the Quality Inspectors and Technicians
- Provide leadership to direct reports
- Supervise inspectors and technicians, including during overtime and weekend hours, as necessary
- Proactively schedule coverage for off-Fridays and/or weekends as needed to support customer requirements
- Primary interface with Human Resources on employee issues
- Review employee performance with employees quarterly and provide feedback to Quality Manager
- Provide regular feedback to employees to drive improved performance
- Oversee employee activity reporting; labor, attendance, vacation, etc.
- Ensure all employees understand department goals and objectives
- Maintain skilled staff levels
- Make recommendations to the Quality Manager on staff level requirements by completing staffing capacity reviews
- Interview applicants and make hiring recommendations to Quality Manager
- Identify skill gaps that are hindering performance (individual and department), develop solutions to close gaps
- Execute employee growth and training plans
- Operate department efficiently
- Represent Quality at daily meetings (NDT and some shift start up meetings)
- Attend Weekly Meetings (Production and Supervisors Meetings)
- Attend job start-up and shut-down meetings as required
- Visit each area daily, prioritize workload for inspectors, and flex resources as necessary
- Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day inspection issues
- Utilize 5S methods to maintain a clean and organized department
- Ensure materials, tools, and equipment is available for all jobs
- Ensure tools and equipment are in good working order
- Oversee inspection and testing activities
- Ensure all necessary product/job related Inspection tasks are performed
- Schedule inspections and maintain product flow through NDT, QA Lab, and manufacturing/inspection areas
- Maintain calibration of measurement and test equipment (quality and production areas)
- Periodically audit areas for identification, status, and locations of MTE
- Provide timely feedback on broken, damaged, or lost MTE
- “Lead” responsibility for customer source visits
- Interact with manufacturing to understand priorities needed for supporting on-time delivery
- Perform inspections at suppliers, when required
- Write Purchase Requisitions for routine outside inspection services
- Manage activities to avoid delays associated with long leadtime inspections, use of outside services, non-standard methods, or manpower issues
- Coordinate shipments with production department personnel
- Execute quality assurance procedures and tests
- Support receiving inspection functions, (back up receiving inspector)
- Support inspection functions throughout the facility (back-up inspector)
- Control non-conforming material in production areas.
- Ensure known or suspected non-conforming product is properly identified and controlled at all times
- Identify and control non-conforming product in manufacturing (bond areas, hold areas, etc)
- Prevent escapes of non-conforming product
- Participate in initial reviews of non-conforming product to allow for timely disposition and processing
- Oversee quality document/record filing and maintenance
- Ensure that quality records are complete, correct, appropriately filed, and purged when applicable
- Review document packages prior to shipment and approve, as applicable
- Ensure correct revisions of quality documents are available in the area and being used. Remove obsolete versions from area.
- Ensure a safe work environment
- Promote safe work practices through active involvement in identifying issues, initiating discussions about safety with personnel, and leading by example
- Perform safety inspections of area and equipment
- Help resolve identified safety issues
- Conduct safety investigations and related reporting when injuries or near misses occur
