Intermodal (Rail) Dispatcher

Position Summary: Intermodal Dispatcher

• Develop delivery routes and maintain contact with drivers throughout the day to ensure on-time pickup and delivery.

• Collaborate with management to modify daily routes to accommodate the needs of customers.

• Act as a communication liaison through the tablet and two-way radio and answer incoming phone calls from drivers on the road.

• Main communication link to drivers, including load information, maintenance coordination, performance counseling and distribution of general company news and information.

• Ensure that each driver has an adequate understanding of all details of customer and company expectations on each load at the point of dispatch.

• Daily accounting of all assigned trucks and drivers.

• Resolve both driver and customer service issues that arise.

• Report reoccurring driver performance issues, customer complaints, and operational inefficiencies to the Dispatch Manager along with recommendations for change.

• Cultivate strong relationships with drivers and customers to reduce the stress that comes with last minute schedule changes.

• Monitor any sudden route changes or road construction issues and work with drivers to establish new routes for timely deliveries.

• Utilize independent judgment and effectively manage driver work assignments.

• Complete necessary database entry accurately and in a timely manner ensuring an efficient and steady flow of information.

• Professionally and timely respond to all email inquiries directed to the dispatch department.

Required Qualifications:

• Communication Skills: You will be listening and speaking to people by radio and phone. Your ability to listen, speak plainly and communicate effectively - especially in times of stress - will be essential.

• Ability to Multitask: Dispatchers often are moving a lot of drivers around at the same time, tracking their movements and keeping tabs on what they need.

• Problem-Solving Skills: Able to prioritize the most important situations, and think quickly on your feet in order to manage time effectively.

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional weekends and holidays.

• Strong knowledge of the roadways throughout the immediate area

• Ability to work in a team environment in high pressure situations

• Strong written communication skills

• High school diploma/GED required

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

• Ability to adapt and respond to different types of situations and personalities.

• Familiarity with MS Office and data programs.

• 10 hour shift
• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed
