Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide support to optometrists by performing clinical, administrative, and customer service tasks. You will assist in patient care, perform preliminary eye tests, manage patient records, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the practice.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Interaction:
- Greet and check in patients.
- Obtain patient history and ensure all relevant information is documented.
- Prepare patients for exams by explaining procedures and assisting with the fitting of glasses or contact lenses.
2. Clinical Support:
- Assist in conducting preliminary eye tests such as visual acuity, peripheral vision, and eye muscle movement tests.
- Perform diagnostic procedures, such as taking retinal images, eye pressure tests, and operating diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain and sterilize optometric equipment.
- Aid in the fitting and adjustment of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
3. Administrative Duties:
- Schedule patient appointments and manage the optometry calendar.
- Handle patient records, update insurance information, and manage billing and payments.
- Process insurance claims and assist patients with understanding their insurance benefits.
4. Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service by answering patient inquiries, addressing concerns, and explaining treatment plans.
- Assist patients in selecting eyewear and educating them on frame styles, lens options, and proper care.
5. Inventory and Equipment Management:
- Order and maintain an inventory of frames, lenses, and other supplies.
- Ensure the office environment is clean, organized, and welcoming.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional certification or training).
- Previous experience in an optometry or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with patients in a friendly, professional manner.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle administrative tasks efficiently.
- Knowledge of basic optometric procedures and equipment is a plus.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain a calm demeanor in a busy environment.
- Basic computer skills for scheduling, record-keeping, and billing.
