Job Title: Nurse Practitioner/Interim Clinic Supervisor
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Medical Director/Chief Program Officer
Summary: Provides general health care and takes an active leadership role for the daily clinical operations. Educate patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments. Conduct physicals, order tests, prescribes medicines and serves as a patient's primary healthcare provider. Oversees the daily management of the clinic, provides administrative support, oversees the hiring and training of staff, link and coordinate patient care plans.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Provides direct clinical services as defined by RHC’s protocols and treatment guidelines including medical histories and physicals.
2. Diagnose and/or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuries. Prescribe treatments or therapies
3. Provide chronic illness management.
4. Provide family planning services such as contraception, laboratory examination
5. Implements contraceptive regime based on clinical and social evaluation and on the patient’s choice method, including fitting diaphragms and inserting intrauterine devices.
6. Specimen(s) collection, administration of treatments, performing point of care lab tests.
7. Prescribe medications, counsel patients about drug regimens, possible side-effects or interactions with other substances.
8. Maintain complete and detailed records of patient’s health care plans and prognoses.
9. Works with RHC staff and volunteers to ensure quality of care.
10.Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patient’s individual circumstances. Provide after-care/ongoing care information and resources to patients and their families.
11.Proactively assist the patient and family through all facets of accessing care at the clinic and elsewhere, serving as a resource to resolve patient and family concerns.
12.Consult with or refer patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise.
13.Assure effective communication among team and to patients to ensure patient satisfaction and quality care.
14.Monitor, evaluate, and develop staff performance.
15.Monitor patient care for quality. Implement corrective measures when deficiencies are identified.
16.Monitor staff compliance with regulatory standards. Maintains standards of care and ensures services are rendered are in compliance with: Federal, State, local laws and regulations; established RHC’s policies, procedures and protocols; and CalOptima standards.
18.Serves a key contact for electronic health records.
20.Performs other duties as assigned by manager(s).
Competency: To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
Qualifications
Qualifications: A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience. Ability to understand complex medical information and clearly communicate it to patients and their families. Knowledge of pharmaceutical side effects and potential problems. Ability to organize multiple work tasks, interact with diverse populations and be sensitive to patient needs, issues and to advocate on their behalf. Knowledge of PrEP preferred. Experience working and sensitivity towards the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ ) population.
Education: Masters of Science in Nursing
Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
Reasoning Ability: Exhibits superior critical thinking and analytical skills.
Computer Skills: Must have basic knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
Supervisory Responsibility: N/A
Certificates & Licenses: Nurse Practitioner License and Furnishing Number. HIV certification preferred. CHDP certified.
