The primary role of the Manager, Credit and Collections, is to direct, lead and develop the credit and collections team. The incumbent monitors and extends prudent lines of credit to customers, safeguards the assets of accounts receivable, and ensures effective and timely collection actions are completed with past due customers by exercising consistent independent judgment and decision making to maximize cash flow while also ensuring continuity of future sales through customer relationship building. The Manager, Credit and Collections, must possess strong leadership and management abilities and is responsible for managing, training, reviewing, counseling, motivating and disciplining employees.

In this position, the Credit and Collections Manager is responsible for:
Leadership Accountabilities
- Ensure employees are appropriately trained and performing to meet the standards of their role and department requirements.
- This includes ongoing performance management and significant discretion in hiring, termination, disciplinary measures and decisions.
- Make recommendations for salary adjustments.
- Assign tasks and duties related to new and ongoing projects to the team members.
- Set team goals and objectives to align with the Company’s strategic goals.
- Keep appropriate Company peers and team members informed of industry activities.
- Make recommendations to the Finance Operations budget including staffing requirements.
- Review, maintain, update and approve employees’ time sheets and attendance schedules.
- Review credit applications from new customers and make subsequent decisions on an appropriate line of credit.
- Monitor and assess customers’ financial health to maintain accounts receivables integrity.
- Make recommendations for credit limit increases.
- Communicate with delinquent customers in an effective and timely manner to final resolution.
- Work with Sales to pre-screen potential customers.
- Assist team with escalated payment collection issues.
- Work collaboratively with Sales, Finance, IT and Operations departments to improve processes and address issues.
- Complete weekly aging reports for all customers.
- Complete A/R reports for senior management and ad hoc reports as needed to support decisions and actions of the department.
- Process weekly AP check run.
- Work with customers’ payment service provider.
- Work with attorneys and collection agencies in pursuing outstanding debt due.
- Develop departmental policies and procedures and ensure proper administration and compliance.
- Work on special projects as required.
- Other duties and assignments as required.
Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, or related discipline.
- NACM certification is an asset.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in business-to-business credit and collections of which a minimum of 2 years’ experience must be in management or leadership role.
- Knowledge of U.S. credit laws and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
- Experience in the Transportation or Logistics industry is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word).
- Intermediate computer skills required in Excel (i.e., formulas, pivot tables).
- Working knowledge of financial software (i.e., SAP, JD Edwards).
- Working knowledge of Transportation Management Software (e.g., SAP, AS400, Revenova, BlueGrace) is an asset.
