Commercial Operations Intern

General Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The Commercial Operations Intern will have the opportunity to directly assist the Commercial Operations Director and team members with a variety of tasks and projects. This years' projects will focus on reviving closed accounts and helping to develop new strategic sourcing of scrap metal. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the Intern will learn how to take skills s/he may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. S/He will gain a better understanding of the role account management and commercial operations play in relation to the overall business.

The rate of pay for this internship is $25.00 per hour, 40 hours per week.  

Essential Functions:

• Work with the Commercial team to gain an understanding of how scrap is purchased, processed and sold.
• Assist team with follow up activity and new business lead generation.
• Seek out new business via cold calling and follow up with companies that may have expressed an interest in the services our facilities provide.
• Work with our internal call center to determine how successful the program actually is.
• Review closed account list in order to determine if the businesses have permanently closed or we have lost them to a competitor. 
• Gather Intel on current market conditions and observe and report on competitors flows.
• Review the previous day’s scale purchase activities and assist commercial and administrative team in resolving any issues found during these reviews.

Job Conditions:

Inside office environment. Position demands working under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Workload requires periodic after normal business hours commitment.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:

Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently; to sit for extended periods of time, up to 6 hours; keyboard for extended periods of time, up to 3-6 hours; apply sufficient force to open and close filing drawers; assemble papers, staple, hole-punch, file and photo copy. Ability to communicate by speech and hearing in person and /or by phone in a professional manner. Visual acuity to perform close detail work, preparing and inspecting documents for accuracy, operating a computer terminal.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled college undergraduate or graduate student.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Suite and internet research tools.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to confidently and clearly communicate information in writing and verbally.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proven people skills.
• Cooperative attitude with team-oriented disposition.
