Looking for guides to lead & assist with rail bike tours at Rail Explorers - Elk River, West Virginia Division!
Flexible start/end dates and flexible weekly schedules are available, with pay starting at $17.00/hr and training provided. Advancement is also possible within the company – Rail Explorers prefers to promote from within.
Rail Explorers Guides lead guests on scenic outdoor railroad rides using our top-of-the-line, electric-assisted rail bikes – ensuring safe, timely tours and a 5-star customer experience!
Successful guides are comfortable working outside and in nature, physically active, positive, outgoing, and have excellent customer service skills.
Rail Explorers is an eco-tourism company providing top-tier outdoor recreation experiences. We connect the freedom of the outdoors and the magic of the railroad in a unique and fun activity that can be enjoyed by all ages. There are seven Rail Explorers Divisions, located in Cooperstown, NY, Phoenicia, NY, Newport, RI, Boone, IA, Versailles, Kentucky, Amador County CA, and our newest addition in Clay, West Virginia!
Responsibilities:
- Greeting and communicating with customers.
- Pedaling Rail Explorer vehicles, with electric motor assist, on 6.5 mile (13 miles round trip) excursions (3-5 tours per day).
- Safely rolling and manipulating Rail Explorer vehicles on foot.
- Performing physical work outdoors, in the elements.
- Working closely with fellow guides in a fast paced team setting.
- Maintaining a high level of professionalism in customer service and the Rail Explorers code of Ethics.
- Learning rail safety and maintenance of Rail Explorer vehicles - training provided.
- Checking in guests using an online booking system and selling merchandise.
- Speaking in front of guests - approximately 40-60 guests per tour, following a script.
- Adhering to any applicable COVID-19 guidelines.
- Punctuality is crucial.
Qualifications:
- Required: Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Required: Ability to perform physical labor (lift a minimum of 50lbs)
- Preferred: Customer service experience, 1-2 years.
- Preferred: Outdoor work experience, 1 year (or 1 season, if seasonal).
- Preferred: Driver's License.
- Preferred: CPR & First Aid Certification (Provided)
Rail Explorers Operating Days:
Rail Explorers is a seasonal outdoor tourism operation, opening and closing dates vary and are influenced by weather conditions.
- May: 5 days/week (Closed Tuesdays and Wednesday)
- June - November: 7 days/week
Rail Explorers West Virginia Division’s part time shifts are approximately 4 - 8 hours long but can be longer or shorter, depending on schedule needs and employee preference.
