Substance Abuse Disorders (SUDs) Counselor
Reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor.
Job Overview: The SUDs counselor will work with the clinical staff in a dual-diagnosis residential facility that uses an eclectic, holistic approach to recovery from substances and mental health disorders. This is a full-time position and the candidate must be willing to work in Challis, ID. In addition to the clinical staff, this position will work with the medical and administrative staff as needed to foster superior care for residential client's. The candidate will have experience and proven success in treating addiction and mental health issues for clients through group, individual, and family therapy. Must be able to pass a criminal history background check through the State of Idaho.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Lead group therapy sessions daily.
- Provide individual counseling to evaluate client’s progress in treatment.
- Orient new clients to treatment and perform assessments.
- Create treatment plans and master problem lists using ASAM’s 6 dimensions.
- Screen potential new clients for appropriateness to treatment in a residential setting.
- Meet with client family members and perform family sessions as the need arises.
- Set up aftercare plans and provide referrals as necessary for discharging clients.
- Must be willing to work weekend hours and as necessary during the day.
- Work with case conceptualization along with other clinical staff.
- Must work effectively with other team members to be trained to meet the following abilities.
Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of CADC or ACADC or a professional license in the state of Idaho (LPC, LCPC, LCSW) is preferred.
- 2 years in the substance abuse field.
- Must be able to pass a criminal history background check through the State of Idaho.
- Must be agreeable to a 40-hour work week consisting of four 10-hour shifts.
- Must be flexible to work weekend hours as necessary during the day.
- Must have the ability to utilize effective communication & conflict negotiation skills.
- CPR/First aid certification is required within 90 days.
- Experience using Motivational Interviewing techniques preferred & knowledge of CBT.
- Understanding of relapse prevention skills & knowledge of Prochaska’s stages of change.
- A preferred candidate will have a strong support system personally and knowledge of the 12-step mission & purpose.
- Preferred candidate will be able to lead outdoor excursions such as hiking, kayaking, fishing and pertinent therapeutic experiential activities as planned.
