SENIOR STAFF ATTORNEY

Reports to: Chief Program Officer
Status: Full time, exempt
Job Summary: The Senior Staff Attorney provides holistic, trauma-informed legal assistance to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking survivors in a manner that is consistent with each person’s overall needs for safety and other supportive services.
Duties:
· Provide legal assistance in the areas of immigration, family law, housing, government benefits, consumer debt, and employment law. Legal assistance will include representation, pro per assistance, accompaniment and advocacy, as appropriate to address each client’s individual needs.
· Provide consultation and feedback to the legal services manager, paralegals, victim advocates, and legal interns.
· May supervise legal interns.
· Work with nonlegal staff members at Rainbow to ensure that legal services are coordinated and consistent with other supportive services.
· Develop professional and community relationships that will assist Rainbow’s legal clients.
· Assist with contract compliance and grant reporting related to legal services, as needed.
· Maintain case files in a timely manner, utilizing the electronic case management system by uploading relevant case documents and maintaining current status notes.
· Conduct domestic violence trainings for community partners and Rainbow staff.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· JD degree and admittance to the State Bar of California required.
· Minimum of seven (7) years of experience providing legal services in the areas of immigration, family law and/or tenants’ rights.
· Prior experience working at a domestic violence shelter is a plus.
· Bilingual English/Spanish preferred because of the high population of Spanish-speaking clients.
· Interest in addressing social justice issues affecting families and vulnerable groups, and a commitment to the movement to end intimate partner violence.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Trauma-informed and sensitive listening and communication skills.
· Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. required.
· California ID or Driver’s License required.
· Proof of current automobile insurance detailing coverage and list of covered drivers required.
· Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required absent a valid, approved medical and/or religious exemption.
· Proof of negative tuberculosis test is required and may be obtained after hire.
· Live Scan criminal background check is required upon hire as a condition of employment.
· State mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence training is required and can be provided upon hire.
Salary : $85,000
