Job Overview

This position reports to the Payments Assistant Manager and Payments and Deposit Operations Manager. This role is responsible for performing Automated Clearing House (ACH), Inclearings and Wire processes. Processes include, but are not limited to, processing files; working rejects, returns and errors; Payment Reconciliations; and processing payment directions.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

• Education - High school degree or equivalent. Additional business training helpful.
• Minimum of 6 years of credit union, or financial services, experience to include an understanding of products, services, policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience processing ACH or Inclearings.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles.
• Well organized and works with a sense of urgency.
• Attentive to detail, a multi-tasker and efficient.
• Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to operate office machines including PC, Imaging Systems, telephones, viewers, printers, and other basic machines. 
• Strong service-orientation, with customer service skills.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based applications.

Role Description and Essential Duties

• Processes ACH and Inclearings files and ensures all items are received at financial institutions by settlement dates.
  • Sets up distribution maintenance and posts all ACH daily files.
  • Identifies; researches and posts exception items; item posting is based on a review of the account, researching account history, and permanently correcting the exception or sending the item back.
  • Processes and balances Inclearings, handles encoding errors, and works returned Items daily. 
  • Fulfills Stop payment Requests, Direct Payment Requests, and completes Social Security and Medicare Income verification.
  • Processes payment disputes, fraud prevention and recovery, as needed.
  • Processes Deceased Account Notifications in relation to ACH, Inclearings and Wires.
  • Balances the ACH and Inclearings general ledger accounts daily.
• Works with Information Technology (IT) to ensure that files are posted in a timely fashion; researches file issues and assists IT with troubleshooting. Collaborates with Digital Product and User Experience team, as needed, on payments.
• Works with Accounting to reconcile general ledger outages and resolve issues.
• Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
• Maintains member confidentiality. Completes special projects as assigned. Keeps work area clean and well maintained. 
• Participates in Annual ACH Audits before December 31st of each year.
• Attends required annual BSA trainings. Complies with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) rules and regulations, in addition to Customer Identification Program (CIP). Attends required annual BSA training and required compliance training.
• Assist with all other duties as assigned or identified.
