Ralph L Wadsworth Construction Company is looking for a Senior Estimator in our Commercial and Water Group who will be responsible to lead estimates with an emphasis on concrete structures such as parking structures, water and wastewater facilities, commercial concrete including footings, foundations and suspended slab and industrial concrete. This position will develop quickly into a Lead Commercial Estimator role for the right individual who will lead a commercial estimating Team of 3-5 estimators. This position will work closely with Project Owners, Vendors, Subcontractors, Project Managers, Accounting and the Chief Estimator. Meticulous attention to detail is required for this job.

Position Description
- Review proposal specifications and drawings and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepare estimates by calculating various statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour and equipment costs and applying to complete scope of work.
- Review/research historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
- Incorporate historical data into unit and man-hour figures.
- Participate in developing bid package estimate documents.
- Maintain files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
- Create, send and manage subcontractor requests for proposal.
- Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information. Determines the suitability and competitive stance of subs and suppliers
- Prepare detailed estimate schedules for proposed projects.
- Initiates schematic plans or sketches to illustrate approach and strategy. (Sketchup or Tekla experience a plus)
- May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality or availability of materials.
- Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, etc.
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college, technical school or university in Engineering or Construction Management
- 7 years of self-perform based estimating experience, demonstrating competence in hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating with a focus on structural concrete preferred.
- 7 years of reading (in English) and analyzing and responding to engineering drawings, technical plans, constructability, and contracts.
- Experience in Tekla, Sketchup, Revit, Tekla or other 3D takeoff software a plus but not required immediately
- Experience in Planswift, or other 2D takeoff software is required
- 7 years of responding to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- 7 years of presenting information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Good knowledge of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and calculate mathematical extensions. Also, good knowledge of geometric formulas and equations are required to calculate area, volume, etc. in performing take-offs.
- 7 years of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Solid understanding of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
- Creative and Innovate problem solver who likes challenging and complex projects
- Excellent knowledge of construction practices, methods, trends and crew data
- Presents and communicates well in interviews and in all meetings with clients
- Effective written, verbal and presentation skills
- Ability to use Bid2Win, HCSS or similar bottom up estimating software considered a plus
