YouthBuild Job Placement Coach
For over 40 years, the Randolph County Housing Authority has worked to promote strong communities and a healthy quality of life in our communities. Through collaboration with local partners, RCHA continues this work and has grown to offer a variety of programs including rental assistance, property management, supportive services, workforce development and youth skill building development.
The YouthBuild Program (https://youthbuild.org/) engages out-of-school youth ages 16-24 and provides pathways to employment through education, job shadowing, coaching, and a variety of other supportive services. Students choose between a MedPrep pathway, where we partner with local medical institutions as well as community colleges or a Construction pathway where they will learn construction skills while building affordable housing and other community assets that make our communities stronger and more vital. The local chapter at the Randolph County Housing Authority serves the North Central West Virginia counties of Randolph, Barbour, Tucker, and Upshur.
Job Description:
The Job Placement Coach develops and implements meaningful work experience opportunities for YouthBuild participants. These work experiences offer the participants active engagement with the skills, including specific tools and vocabulary, of a particular pathway while offering sponsoring partners the opportunity to observe, train, and develop rapport with the participants for potential placements.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor participants and work collaboratively with other YouthBuild staff to identify individual’s strengths and interests.
- Identify and assist in development of in-house and auxiliary services to facilitate brining trainees into job-ready status.
- Provide participant assessments for career aptitude and interests.
- Instruct participants in resume writing, job search skills and interviewing techniques.
- Assist with completion of Work Ready or Post-Secondary Portfolio
- Work actively with both current and exited participants, as well as partners to provide ongoing follow-up and supportive services.
- Cultivate working relationships with individuals and organizations to support potential training and placements, such as local employers, Workforce Development Boards, community colleges and four-year universities, and industry associations.
- Develop a broad understanding of workforce development practices and innovations, labor market information, sectoral employment approach, and local, state, and federal regulatory changes.
- Represent RCHA in all interactions with partners and the community, supporting the agency mission.
- Assist with transportation of trainees involved in job search activities and post-secondary exploration.
- Other duties and special projects as specified.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to build and sustain community partnerships.
- Ability to maintain accurate, organized data and records.
- Organization and multitasking skills
- Criminal background check that meets Agency standards
- Valid driver’s license permitting operation of a vehicle in the State of West Virginia with a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with young people who have not completed high school.
- Demonstrated ability to work with youth with barriers in a training or educational setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues facing young people who have not completed high school.
