Rapid City Medical Center is hiring a full-time Purchasing Agent. The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for processing purchase orders based on requisitions received from various departments, conducting regular price comparisons to ensure best price for supplies purchased, and providing support to the purchasing department, as assigned. The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for learning company purchasing policies and procedures and maintaining supply inventory levels required for effective company operation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Purchasing Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for taking purchasing orders from various departments within the company and placing purchases with various vendors.
- Ability to compare price quotes on various supplies to minimize costs for the company.
- Research supply options to meet department needs and provide samples, if necessary.
- Ensure that departments are supplied with necessary materials and monitor unnecessary or inefficient stock piling of supplies.
- Maintain purchasing software including vendor maintenance and inventory pricing.
- Monitor inventory levels and provide inventory management.
- Provide back-up duties to other purchasing department staff by tracking deliveries and verifying receipts match purchase orders.
- Perform other duties as requested.
EDUCATION: High school diploma/GED required (associate’s degree or higher preferred). Valid driver’s license required.
EXPERIENCE: Purchasing experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical billing.

- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a deadline driven environment with changing priorities.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone and establish/maintain cooperative relationship with patients, families, physicians, staff and other customers.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Variety of office and stockroom settings.
- Some driving to vendor or satellite locations.

- Minimal exposure to communicable diseases.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
