The Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy is seeking two highly qualified instructional staff to complement our training mission. Qualification Requirements:
Minimum:
- 5 years CJ Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Certified DCJS General Instructor
- 1 year of experience in training or instruction
Preferred:
- 10 years of CJ Experience
- Related associate’s degree
- Certified DCJS Specialty Instructor
- Academy Instruction Experience
Highly Qualified:
- Criminal Justice Supervisory Experience
- Related bachelor’s degree
- Certified in multiple DCJS Instructorships
- Lead Instructor for Basic Training Program
General Description of Duties:
Instruct all aspects of basic training and in-service classes to which assigned.
Major Job Functions:
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
- Instruct (as required) individual classes in accordance with Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and Academy guidelines.
- Update and develop lesson plans, training aids, and relevant classes.
- Set up and maintain classrooms/ranges, brief classes, and maintain student records.
- Act as class coordinator in the absence of coordinator.
- Ensure student safety and welfare at all times.
- Maintain professional, cordial relations with other staff members, students, visiting instructors, Sheriff’s, Chiefs, and other organizational heads.
- Assist or substitute for any other Academy staff member as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Excellent communication skills and able to interact with diverse staff and stakeholders
- Familiar with adult learning concepts
- Exceptional conflict resolution skills
- Strong organizational abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
- Able to succinctly express complex issues both orally and in writing
- Must be able to participate in physical training with recruit classes
- Able to be outside during inclement weather conditions
Salary and Benefits:
Pay Grade 11:
$55,217 - $59,723 DOQ
